I'm new to the forum and want to start by thanking all the contributors and anyone that takes the time to read this. I am coming from riding a 2022 Giant Reign E1 on steep enduro type trails on Vancouver Island. After demo riding a Trek Fuel+ I am planning on purchasing a new LX model. I have read nothing but positive reviews and based on my demo ride I am happy with the amount of power the bike comes with. I am here looking to see if anyone has had any negative experiences or issues with their own Fuel+'s or anyone who may have ridden a Fuel+ and then chosen something else instead.

Right then, @RHewitt - welcome to the forum. Vancouver Island enduro riding is no joke, so you clearly know what you're doing on a bike. The Reign E1 is a proper weapon, and you're now considering something at the opposite end of the eMTB philosophy spectrum. That's worth unpacking honestly.

Let me go find the current Fuel+ LX spec before I say anything I'll regret. (searching Trek's current lineup for Fuel+ LX specifics...)

Right. Here's where we are. The Fuel+ in context

The Trek Fuel+ range sits in the "light eMTB" category, running the TQ HPR60 motor - 60Nm, roughly 450W peak. That's verified for the top-spec Fuel+ EX 9.9. The LX is a lower trim of the same platform, so same motor and battery architecture, different contact points and componentry.

Coming from the Giant Reign E1 - which is a full-fat Yamaha-motored enduro machine - this is a significant shift in character. Not necessarily wrong, just very different.

What people actually complain about I'll be straight with you rather than just nodding along with the positive reviews:

Motor assistance level - The TQ HPR60 is a lovely motor. Quiet, smooth, zero drag. But compared to the Yamaha SyncDrive in your Reign, it will feel noticeably less powerful on steep, punchy climbs. You demo'd it, so presumably you've made peace with that - but it bears repeating for steep enduro-style trails.
