Can someone please explain to me what 'trail riding' is? Is it a US term for what we Brits would call bridleways and green lanes (p.r.o.w) ....or does it mean MTB trail parks, or does it mean UK trails like (in Derbyshire anyway) the High Peak Trail, Monsal Trail, Tissington Trail etc ( old railway lines that are now flat shared footpaths/cycleways).
It seems an odd name to use.

We're simple folk here.
On road or off road. That's it apart from the two obvious which are woods and cliffs.
So I think that's like 3 options or road.....😁
Yes people trying to make something simple complicated. Wide road that a tractor goes on we would call a forestry or land rover track or dirt track . Narrow walking route a path . Offroad narrow for mtb we would call singletrack but 30 years ago it wouldn't have been called that . It will only get worse I suspect.

Now your definitely complicating options there with the word walking....😳

I've had a few drams so no more social media .Enjoy the show. I read one question earlier in pics of the week . I would still be reading if I went through all the comments.

In USA, a multiple use (non-motorized) trail is a singletrack (do they have singletrack in UK?) a narrow soft surface trail that usually allows foot traffic, mountain bike use, and equestrian such as horses and mules. A non-mechanized trail is one that allows foot traffic and equestrian traffic. But no mountain bikes. These are found in designated wilderness areas. And among other areas so restricted.
Sorry, “multi-use” is the descriptor… it can be a single-track, double-track, fire road, service (dirt) road.

In 2023 I spent most of my time building a trail for hiking and biking use. I asked an experienced dog walker to ribbon out a path that I could follow and scratch out a trail. A few bridges would be needed besides the usual trail building work. Btw…a book was written about her search and rescue (3 Dog Nights) a few years ago and she also found my lost dog on this mountain …thank goodness.

When I completed the trail, with the occasional helper, I shared the location with a handful of riders. The reviews were mixed.

The trail is a long downhill-uphill figure 8 pattern that meander's through a secluded area. The climb out is suitable for eMTB’s.…but analog mtb’ers hate it.

A neighbour and myself ride this trail a few times a week. He recently asked if he could record and map the trail. Likely for personal records and KOM times.

So we kinda decided on a name for this trail but we can’t figure out a rating. It’s got a little bit of everything.

He suggested a double black if you ride it fast. I suggest green if you ride it slow.
It seems subjective 🤷‍♂️.
