I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with this game, but today is the day. Commercials, halftime show, drama…and the game.
I do this every year. I even got a bigger TV just for this. Surrounded by family and friends and Nachos and Beer.
I’m ready for game time.

KC, cause I think they’re ’re the underdog. And Kelce can kill it today.

You forgot the burgers ;)

We were skiing in British Columbia 8 years in a row. I remember that one of the highlights of the trip was getting together on Super Bowl day. Beer, hot dogs, nachos and burgers. Good memories.

As a Brit I am less than overwhelmed with American football. I once went to see a game in Cambridge. It was between the Alconbury Spartans (a US base in the UK) and the Zweibruke Warriors (a US base in Germany). What do I remember? The cheerleaders, the loud commentary in what seemed to me to be a deep south American accent. Also the absolutely enormous amount of bodily protection (compared to the UK Rugby football teams who only wear something to stop their ears from being torn off and a "box" to protect their man bits). Those guys were already big and with all that kit on they looked HUGE! I also remember that the game had hardly got going when it stopped for some more cheer leading, no complaints from me! The stop/start progress of the game became irritating. Although interesting to watch as a whole, it left me slightly bored; I spent more time watching the crowd especially the Americans. :D

Once the game was over there occurred a definite downer, from which only the US came out on top; us Brits didn't do too well! There was a queue for hot dogs and suddenly a rough looking girl in her late teens accused a middle-aged man of leering at her (he most probably wasn't, she was just looking for a ruck). The guy was just an ordinary bloke, had his young teenage son with him. The girl's male friend who had had plenty of beer thought he would defend her honour and attacked the man. While we were all stunned into motionless inaction, one of the US football players, still in his kit (sans helmet) launched himself at the young hooligan and smothered him to the ground. Another player grabbed the girl who had been egging on her boyfriend to "kick him in the head" and so forth.

Once the action had stopped the stasis of the small crowd ended and critical comments aimed at the hooligans began. The hooligans walked away unharmed and unpunished, but the poor man was severely uncomfortable as he was probably wondering if they might follow up on their threats to "get him outside the exit". :(

That was my one and only live experience of an American football match. The Americans won convincingly!

Can't even spell live right...

;) 🤪

I looked it up and it was going to be too late to watch here. It's like the whole thing is setup just for that continent.

As it is, it takes long enough .. with a few more breaks and 1/24 game promo music sessions and big add sessions they could surely stretch it out over 24 hours so everyone gets a bit of a look in ?

Not much of a "TV" guy but I poached my son's xfinity account to watch it, first one in many years last time being when I lived in CO. and the Bronco's were involved, because I wanted the Eagles to win. My son's SO is from Phillie and her Mom is in a bad way health wise so I was rooting for her. Sad for here more than the team but at least it was a close game.

Some of the commercials were clever and I made it about 1 minute into the half time show before I had to look elsewhere, not a Rihanna fan I guess.

Good game but not a Rihanna fan either. I figured she was prego 1 min into her show.
@The Hodge , men in tight pants , weird shaped ball, they all hug at the end…that’s all ya need to know 😉

I invited my daughter and grand kids over and six of us went on a 5.2 mile pre-game ride. I had to drag a few bikes out of moth balls and do some quick repairs on them and a couple of theirs. Even the little kids made it with some encouragement and minor assistance. Then pizzas in the oven and the game (starting with the 2nd quarter). It was really good for them to do something different (the family is going through some rough times) and it ended up being a very good day for all, the game being secondary but a good excuse for an impromptu get together. One again a pivotal NFL game was marred by a game-altering penalty call, but thats the NFL and I guess I really don't care. I watched 3 games this year (the last three) more for the social aspects than any real desire to watch football. So that was my Super Bowl day - the highlight being watching those kids stand on the pedals to make it up the hills on our un-paved back roads around home.

Bad call on Ju-Ju and that fumble by Hurts hurt. Could have been a different game ending. Watched most of the game while holding my latest (2 months) granddaughter and eating appy’s. This guy is tired.

Super Bowl LVIII

Los Vegas NV.
Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers

I had to take the entire day off from riding. Family and friends started showing up just after noon for the 3:30 pm kickoff. The hype was real. You could even bet on the colour and flavour of the Gatorade that would drench the winning coach. You name it…you could bet on it. It’s in Vegas after all!

Everyone here watched on the big screen. Even the ladies watched to critique the apparel and lipstick 💄 of some chick in the crowd.

Of course there’s lots of screaming …ooohs…awww’s and “wtf” ‘s. Some beer was spilled and wings consumed. Even my daughter cheered “ YEAH SPORTSSSSSS!!!!”. Overtime was eventually needed to decide the winner.

Confetti fell, Vince Lombardi Trophy was presented, some broad kissed a player (for too long imo), watched the highlights again and re-played the commercials.

I lost money but my team won …KC Chiefs.

Tried watching the Superbowl once.
After about an hour, 5 minutes had elapsed and so had my patience.
I completely understand. The rules can be lengthy and complicated. We need so many referees, umpires and officials in our NA games.…but the fans can be just as fanatical.

Was going to watch it but instead went to bed. From reports sounds like I did the right thing and managed to avoid watching paint dry.
Yeah, very defensive game which makes for a boring watch. The drama remains the same for me though. I just focus on different players and set plays. A defensive game can be just as interesting for me.

But I only watched 30sec of the halftime show.(Bad Bunny). I was more interested in Green Day and how they were choosing the words for their songs.

Seattle play at Lumen field? To me that's the WLF base & far more entertaining for it. IYKYK.

Ironically, just as the first half of the game was about to end and the halftime show was about to begin …my phone started ringing.

Missing biker/trail builder. Since I’m the closest to the trail head, know his vehicle, suspect his whereabouts and he is a personal friend, I started networking to others who know him and texted our Burke Mountain forum.

I left my comfy couch, a few minutes of the game and most of the halftime show.
Success! Located my buddy, notified all those ready to help. 15-20 minutes of my time. Back in time for most of the third quarter …whewww. 😅

I kinda know. I’ve made several trips to Seattle for games and somewhere I still have a Sander’s jersey. Many times I’ve sat in the 12th fan section …once during a horrific downpour where we had to place our thumb over the bottle opening and they stopped the game when the water became too deep for the players. (Seattle vs San Fran.

What’s cool about the SB is it’s one thing that brings people together across economic and political spectrums. On the halftime performance- when has it ever been without criticism? Seems like they always garner discontent. However it does feel exclusionary and misguided to pick a performer who performs in a language less than 20% of the population understands.

I can’t point to a halftime show (right now)that I recently liked. I’m more interested in the logistics of cramming stage background infrastructure for a 15-20 minute show.

My wife and family look forward to halftime and the commercials. I like the game and the food. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Meh. It's music and you don't need to understand the lyrics to enjoy it. I'm German and in Germany it's very common to have music in English and most people don't understand the lyrics.

True. I recorded the entire Super Bowl event and played back the halftime show, which I missed. Bad Bunny 🐰 was just okay. I only understood two words of his lyrics (“Canada” and some other country?). Not really my genre though …but I liked Green Day before the game started.

Yeah it really feels like they purposely want to get a rise out of people sometimes. I wish everything wasn’t about sending a message, politics, right/left. It’s getting old. I just want to watch a good show and not have to hear people bicker. It’s just shoved down our throat so much now.

And no shade on bad bunny. He did a good job! I didn’t understand a word, but the visuals were cool and I got the message.

Game was boring. Feel bad for pats qb. That wasn’t a great showing for him. Would be cool to see him bounce back next year. Even the announcers were kind of brutal towards him haha.

The Pats O line didn’t help matters much. I think Maye will be around for awhile. Maybe not Bradyish, but he’s young and made it to the SB.

I think it's more about what people choose to make of it. BB is the world's most streamed artist. If there was ever a reason to invite an artist, popularity (as measured by listeners) is it. That people get all upset about it is more a function of the political climate than that the NFL is pursuing a political agenda. They're there to make money.

I put the show on here in the UK about 10 mins before it started thinking I’ll catch the first quarter and then get to sleep.

However, I ended up watching the whole thing, really enjoyed it. I’ve always had an interest in American Football, but only in recent years have I got to grips with the nuances of the game and I’m enjoying it even more.

To believe this you’d have to believe Jay Z (the ultimate decision maker for NFL entertainment) isn’t political. He is.

I’ve been watching the NFL since my teens and I still get it wrong. Following more so in the past 30+ years.
Lineups, coaching, matchups, bench behaviour, trades, subtle injuries, are things that I noticed now. The game within the game.
