Hi Guys, thought id dig out this thread again instead of starting something new.

So over the weekend i cleaned my bike and as i was rolling my bike in the garage on the back wheel my dad decided to hold my fork and wiggle it back and forth and i have so my pay in my headset! I didn’t even realise or feel this issue so glad he randomly did it…

But here comes my question… see the first image with the red arrow i dont like the look of this headset as its just flat looking. i like the more “dome” original look rather than it just being flat. Could someone provide me with some links that would fit the cube that have a more dome shape?

I know nothing about headsets etc so, sorry if im being thick or to picky?

Think the closest you'll get is the Cane Creek 40 series headset like this

@Oldrider has one fitted to his and it looks like this

Its a hell of a lot better than the standard ACROS one fitted, but isn't as 'domed'. The Cane Creek is a shed load more money as well costing at least double what you'd pay for the Superstar one and doubtful if it would be any better performance wise.

If you have a decent LBS, they can order from the UK distributor (Extra UK).
The links were for the part numbers for a complete headset.

Stock availability will be the biggest issue

Had to send my fork in to the SRAM Tech Centre for a new valve and seal - so took the opportunity to pop in the new headset of my 140 Race. The old bearings were shot, just fell apart when I removed them this time, the plastic cups popped out really easily with a gentle tap. Clean it all up, lightly grease and the new Superstar cups went it with a rubber hammer and 2 gentle taps.

Fantastic engineering and a huge upgrade with the built in seal on the crown race. Well worth the upgrade for anyone thinking about it. Some pics which may help others.... (colour is gunmetal)!

Being a complete and utter newbie, just before i press Buy, is the following correct for my Hybrid Stereo Race 160 which is creaking badly after 150miles??

Do i need spacers and if so how many?
Does the kit come with a Topcap (i like the UK flag effect i have seen on here)?

Ordered as above and started to fit.

Old bits came out really easy. Top set fitted into the frame with light tapping.

I cannot get the bottom set in. I have tried gently tapping with a wooden mallet but with it being a carbon frame I am concerned! Any advice please??

Scrap that. Put everything in the freezer then used a larger wooden hammer.

The condition of the Cube bearing was terrible after just 200miles.

I've had a fun day!
Took my fox 34 forks off to see if I could replace all the seals and oil over winter.

The forks were an absolute mess, someone had chucked half a bucket of grease in them during the last service, so I nearly nocked myself out trying to pop the air shaft out with the negative air pressure.

But more amusingly..... my FSA bearings fell off and look like this....

can anyone say fubar?

I spent 30 minutes trying to work out from the FSA codes what I needed to order. Then found this.
You guys are awesome. Going to order the superstar components set now :)

How long did you guys wait to get your headset?

I ordered mine on 21st December - said same day despatch but heard nothing since.

I am looking for a headset replacement but because of colour I prefer to stick with HOPE.
problem is I only see a zs56 upper with 31.8 instead of 28.6 diameter.
Could any of you knowledgeable guys tell mee if its possible to use a 1 1/2 to 1 1/8 adapter or something like that?

I looked at hope and they've got a nice diagram showing what you'd need depending on your setup

Unfortunately for the cube stereo they don't do an upper that would fit :(

Got my superstar kit today - top guys getting it out over christmas. Got my fork rebuilt yesterday so hopefully put the whole thing back together tomorrow and out for a ride on new years day!

I was kinda hoping there would be some sort of adapter to go from 31.8 to 28.6 on the upper headset cup.
To bad Hope only makes a ZS56/31.8:(

Got mine all fitted today. Definitely not a fan of the flat style - makes the stem look kinda fragile poking out of a big sturdy frame lol
BUT quality is soooo nice, fit was perfect, bearings look a lot better quality than the FSA ones. So I'm happy :)
