Spectral ON 6.0 frame bearings failure, anyone else or just me !?

I was speaking to someone at the weekend who had the same issue and when he sent his bike back it took two months and came back with dents and scratches. He got a load of compensation

My experience with them wasn't great. I was emailed to confirm receipt of the bike and that they have sent a report to their ”materials specialist” and will revert once they hear back. Two weeks later I received another email from one if the bike techs to say they are working on my bike and will keep me informed. I got the same email message three days running and then and email to ask for my shipping address now the repairs have been done. I had to phone canyon to ask what work was done.

Hi.
Anybody know what kind of bearing I need to my Spectral.
I mean no. of bearing i.e. 6091, 61091 or so. I want to buy it outside canyon store because i don't want another chinese crap. Mine die after 400km.
Will by grateful for those numbers.
Cheers.

not toot my own horn but that is the reason i like bikes like Whyte where they put a lot of attention on bearings and bushings and give you a lifetime warranty on them. it seems very silly to me that they made you pay for it.

The bearing numbers and sizes are listed in the parts diagram posted by Jonnymac in this thread:

Canyon Spectral:ON exploded parts diagram - EMTB Forums

See Jonnymac's last post for the updated diagram.

On a side note I noticed some play in my Spectral ON:7's shock extension and rocker arm. Upon further investigation, I found that the rocker arm bearings had completely seized. I ordered up some new Enduro Bearings to replace the cheap Chinese Cheezium bearings Canyon used. Friggin disgraceful really!

Apart from this, the bike is superb. I have upgraded a few components which has made the bike even more fun to ride!
  • Luftkappe in the Lyrik with 160mm Shaft upgrade - this transformed the performance of the fork, loads of mid stroke support now!
  • Super Deluxe in the rear with Meg Neg Air Can - no longer blowing through all my travel on big hits and loads more support whilst still maintaining small bump sensitivity/compliance.
  • Rimpact Tyre Inserts
  • E7000 Switch
  • Wolftooth dropper lever

I have contacted Canyon PT and Canyon ES, and they do not have the bushing replacement. They say that I have to find by myself. Canyon support, no comments.

The IGUS website do not have the IGUS Bushing ZFM-1012- 10. Only the ZFM-1012- 09 or IGUS ZFM-1012. Which one should i buy?

I got WFM-1012-10 from Canyon couple of month ago. Those seems to be at least same level or maybe even better than original ones. I don't know what the originals was in my bike. ,
Of course ZFM-1012-12 can be shortened 2mm to 10mm lenght

So my Neuron ON has gone the same way after 500 miles. Ordered some replacement and spare bushes on live chat. It’s now £3.95 PER bush plus delivery!!!

Does anyone know of a cheaper source? This is looking like a part that will need to be changed regularly

After 250km I also had the same problem, I will contact the canyon to show my dissatisfaction with what happened, we are talking about 250km, 4 rails, is inadmissible.

Hi there. The guys that already changed these bushing already had problems with the second bushings or solved the problem once and for all? Regards

Simplybearings do the SKF version PPMF 101212 for £3.28 a pair
and GFM-1012_10 for £5.26 a pair plus vat and £1.50 delivery. I have ordered both and will try the SKF ones first to see if they will last any longer .Also bought the max enduro bearings to try . Used them in my Orange before and last alot longer.

Have had my spectral on 6 for about 4 months. Getting bike ready for New years day spin noticed play in the bushings checked bearings and the ones top of horst link seized and bottom ones not much better. Contacted Canyon and got back replay (For all of the bearings to seize after 4 months of use is very unusual and suggests that either the conditions the bike is being used in are very harsh or the bike is not being washed/maintained correctly. ) and (We can supply replacement bearings of the same quality or alternatively most can be replaced with Enduro Max bearings which are a great option for longevity in harsh conditions ). Imagine using your mountain bike in harsh conditions LOL.

Are people still having problems with the bearings/bushes or were the replacements better?
I actually bought a spectralon back at the beginning of December, but on arrival it had a squeeky motor. With that and the tails of seized bearings and worn bushes I decided to get a refund and wait for something of a similar price to come up locally, but with the weather being as wet as it has I've just been using my clockwork bike or running instead.
But now I see Canyon have got a sale on and I could pick up a neuron 5 for £2600 or neuron 6 / spectral 6 for £2900 it's sent my mind spinning again ?!

Just Change the second par of bushings on spectralon with 1800km, this time i go try skf bushings, but i doubt it solve the problem.

Hi. Thank you to everyone re your comments on the frame bearings. I'd like to order a complete set, so I have things to hand should it become an issue, so I have annotated the exploded diagram attached. If those in the know, or just generally curious, could take a look and let me know if I have any of the bearing refs incorrect, I'd appreciate it. From looking at Simply Bearings website, you can get a pack of 10 bushes (part 23) for around £6.50, and if its only a 10 minute job then, whilst slightly annoying, its like brake pads..... I've also added some bearing 'tips' websites to the pdf, re what '6801RS' actually means.

As a complete aside, reason I am doing this is a long time ago I noticed that my Transition Smuggler was letting go at the rear end on sections of trail where it hadn't done before and on checking the bearings a couple were seized. Amazing difference fitting new ones made, so something worth checking now and again (and why I plan to have the spares in).

Not that I am getting out on it at the moment, with Covid-19 restrictions - its all gentle local XC and road rides on my analogue bikes. Getting me fit though. Cheers.

I noticed some play when lifting the rear of the bike, so decided to check the bushings. Took 20 mins going slow and steady to replace them and play is now gone. Just in case anyone is interested, this is what I did:
Tools:
20Nm torque wrench with 5mm and 6mm allens (or was it 4mm?)
Shock pump
Bolt thread grease (I always grease threads)
Some threaded bar with nuts and washers, or a bearing press (or stronger fingers and thumbs than I've got to push the bushings in - lightweight!)
A bike workstand
GT85 and a rag
Job:
Drop the rear wheel out
Let all the air out the rear shock (note psi)
Remove the 6mm bolt
Remove the 5mm bolt (or was it 4mm?)
Pull the busing out with your finger nail or a flat blade driver
Spray GT85 into holes and clean with a rag - including checking/cleaning the bearings, mine were okay so not replacing yet
Press in new bushes
Clean bolt threads, grease and re-fit, torque to 20 Nm
Refit rear wheel
Pump up shock
Lift rear of bike and see if play is gone. If the answer is no, you might need to replace bearings, but it'll probably be fine given the number of people who have had these bushes fail. And see my earlier post re buying a pack of 10 of these for £6.50.

Hi guys, for anyone else having this problem in future you can actually get harder-wearing bronze bushings which fit in the shock carrier and seem to make everything a bit tighter. After going through a set of nylon bushings every winter I'm hoping these will last a bit longer. Check out my post in the below thread for info:
