My IRcc command post regularly dropped pressure from new. Faced with 2-3 week delay & £70 charge from Specialized, I bit the bullet and bought a full service kit to replace all seals and internals. The seat now holds pressure for weeks instead of days. The Specialized workshop video was superb at leading me through the stages.
However when out riding it now drops height partially on an irregular basis, between 5 & 10 mins riding. It goes down ¼ to ⅓ of the travel and then locks. Height is fully recovered by use of lever, but it's damned annoying! There is no link to it happening with rough or smooth terrain, nor uphill/downhill. I didn't alter cable length etc, simply unscrewed lever assembly and then after pulling cable sufficiently through, disconnected cable from seat post. This didn't happen before I did the service.
Any ideas what I need to look at to stop this please?

Thanks, I thought it was wound right in. Will investigate later this afternoon and see if I can create a bit of slack.

you might have to bite the bullet and install something else, command post is as bad as it gets

They are not as bad as it gets. They are a really good dropper that when looked after work well. They are easy to service without removing from the bike and service parts are cheap. If you want as bad as it gets post get a Reverb, especially the first edition ?‍♂️
If You have had trouble with the current crop of command post then it’s because you have not treated it right.

Had/got three of them. All been fine. Have to admit I preferred the 3 position post. Bought my first one cheap as it was faulty. Cleaned it, put it together and worked perfectly.

Thanks for advice. Barrel adjuster at lever was at shortest setting. Disassembled and cable has been cut off with no spare at brass end fitting. Only thing I can think of is that cable outer wasn't seated properly in metal recess on post assembly. Will give it another test ride and see if it's remedied. Can't be far out since it doesn't actuate whole way and didn't happen at all before the service.
I've had no problems with performance of the post, so am reluctant to change it, especially if it's only adjustment. A new, longer cable inner offers better value for money than a new post!

Reseating cable didn't work. I've fitted a new inner cable & made it longer, intention is to use screw adjuster to fine tune which hadn't been possible before. Will test at the weekend.

I'd like to express my thanks to advice received. I went for 90 min ride on Saturday and the seat post issue is now fixed courtesy of a new, longer inner cable. I made it about 8mm longer.
I've no idea why this issue arose, it defies logic, disconnection & reconnection causing shrinkage....! However it can now be put down to experience and I can get out and ride without the Russian roulette element on when the seat post would be triggered involuntarily.
