It's not bad weight wise really, will take my XL with chunky tyres to just over 23kg without pedals which is still a good bit lighter than most comparable internal battery bikes with 600+ batteries

Results from first ride - basically an XC route linking together some local trails - First nice day of the year luckily, sunny day, about 10 degrees c, but about half the ride was proper wading though horrendous mud as been raining and snowing solidly for last 3 weeks. - pics of the bike to give you an idea!

Ride was done in trail only with no consideration for maximising range, just turn on the bike and go for a blast.

I haven't updated software on my bike in a long time, so trail mode is set to the highest level in the older version of the Steps app. Bike is running US software, assistance cuts out at about 19.5mph, so will use a bit more battery than EU Spec. I stopped with battery at 10% on my Garmin - I dont have the a display on my bike - wasn't sure how accurate the Garmin was relaying the information, as the battery went down to 4 bars with the Garmin saying 67% of battery used, so played it safe.

I took pictures of the Garmin data each time the battery light went down a bar.

Garmin doesn't give me range data so cant comment on what that the system was predicting.

Given the conditions I was very pleased with the result and the ride was a hard slog though mud for large parts, only about 1 mile done on the road - I haven't managed more than 17 miles and 2000ft fish of elevation on the older battery on a similar route this year, in similar conditions.

For comparison this is the last ride I did on the 504wh battery that resulted in it being pretty much drained by the end, just after xmas.

Conditions and ride was not one where I could really notice the extra weigh of the battery, other than I forgot to adjust my suspension to take into account extra weight, and did notice is was sagging a bit too much. Getting front end up didn't seem to be an issue.

Dude. Fit an RRP front to your seatstays. It covers right down to the chainstay yoke and trust me it'll keep your chain/chainring/device waaay cleaner. I run an RRP long but I'd guess the short version should have the same length out front.

The rear you have fitted doesn't look to be doing a whole lot and may possibly even be directing shit straight onto your chainstay and drivetrain/lower shock mount.
Is my longer guard uglier? Dunno really. ?

Yep, My original 504 battery has 73 cycles and 86%. My second 504 battery has 66cycles and 89%. I'm lucky to get 20 miles on either of them. I think everyone who has used their bike a good bit will be in the same boat. Marginal for a good 3hr ride.

I have one of the long front RRP's that I modded to work on the back, but I found it doesn't make any difference in these kind of conditions, so I just keep the other one on year round. The E-Sentier is currently rocking it as thats what I usually use round here in the winter, but I popped the chain last week and awaiting new one to turn up. TBH I wouldnt usually ride half the routes I took today in the winter because of the conditions - fair bit of bridleway this morning and its been chewed up by horses, it was only because it was the easiest route to test the range.

The Zeb is 180mm - I couldn't get hold of a 170 so went with 180 and was going to change the travel as I wasn't a fan of the Lyrics in 180 when I had them on the bike - however the 180mm Zebs I am really liking.

Any further news on the range @R120 ?

Mate has just got one, he weighs nearly 20kg more than me and on the same ride last week mine was dead after 25km (3 year old 504 on 84% health) and he still had 3 bars left when he got home after 30km so looks to be a huge improvement. Shame his motor died the next day!

Afternoon. Here’s mine. Am based in NW England so Llandegla, Gisburn Forest and the like are all within driving distance. Has anyone found the paintwork to be a little delicate - may be just I am a little cack handed of course.....

Yup, for all the reservations I had about the sizing it's a cracking bike and the fits spot on although I can't wheelie or manual it, but then I couldn't any other bike I've owned 💈🙄💈

Finally finished my 2021 297 VR build, though sadly no trail shots because the motor is off to Madison/Shimano tomorrow
I bought the bike knowing that I wanted to make it as capable as possible for the lowest price possible, whilst retaining as much of the original spec as I could, selling the bike it replaced and the parts I've replaced from the E-Sommet, to keep costs as low as possible. Well, this bike, as seen in these shots, has cost me £3,270.68 to date. I've used a bunch of stuff I already had, like the carbon bar, wheelset, shorter cranks, pedals, and a couple of other bits, then bought what I needed either second hand or through trade, such as the shock and fork. I did pay full whack for a couple of bits too, like the bike itself and the EDC tool kit. The wheelset that came with the bike is being used for commuting, this wheelset is for playing! Parts changed from original spec as follows:
Fork - was X-Fusion Trace RC, now SR Suntour Durolux 36 EQ R2C2.
Shock - was X-Fusion O2 Pro R, now Fox Float X2 Performance Elite.
Seatpost - was Brand X Ascend 125mm, now Reverb 150mm.
Saddle - was Nukeproof Neutron, now Sam Hill Enduro.
Handlebar - was Nukeproof alloy 780mm, now Nukeproof carbon 760mm.
Grips - were Vitus, now Ergon GE1 Factory.
Front rotor - was unbranded 203mm, now Aztec 220mm.
Cranks - were Shimano 165mm, now Shimano 160mm.
Wheelset - was Vitus hubs on WTB rims, now NS Enigma Rock Roll custom.
Tyres - were Maxxis HRII and Assegai (and will be again in the summer), now WTB Judge and Maxxis Shorty.
Just wish I had been able to get out on some trails this weekend...

It certainly doesn't look like this anymore! Only upgrades so far are
  • Ice tech rotors
  • Renthal Carbon Bar
  • Renthal Stem
  • Rear tyre insert
  • New set of wheels on order from SILK

Nice ride.

When you say Renthal headset, do you mean the stem? I was under the impression that the only headset that fits this bike is the FSA headset it comes with.
