Shimano shorter cranks

Hi guys,

Anyone had any luck in finding shorter cranks for their Shimano Steps E8000?

I have Miranda 155mm's but these are like butter.

Are Hope going to make a Shimano compatible set does anyone know?

Have had Miranda 155's on my bike for a couple of years with no issues. I'm not a jumper but also not lightweight. And I see almost no difference to the Shimano cranks.

That's interesting. I had a tiny crash on a small jump a while ago and it bent like a banana. I'm only 75kg too.
Most say they're more flexible than a gymnast but then again they've won awards for their manufacturing. Odd.

I'm 95 kg and not a jumper. But I do like bashing them into rocks occasionally.

I've never understood the difference 5mm or so can make in a crank. Surely just pick a different line. How often can you be striking unless doing trials.

Hope are miles behind on pretty much all production of their current range of products so I wouldn't expect anything new from them for a while

165mm shimano Steps cranks are available. Just calm down look ahead more and learn to plan when to pedal and when not to,when to drop a pedal and when to raise it and learn to time your pedal strokes when climbing. All of this will make you a better rider.

I went from 170mm cranks to 160mm cranks and it made a very noticeable difference.

I went from thick pedals to thinner pedals, saving maybe 5mm. It made a very noticeable difference, despite only gaining ground clearance worth half of this.

Went back to 170mm cranks from shorter, and it feels a lot different in terms of how big of a circle I have to spin. That alone was a reason for me to want to switch back to shorter.

You try riding janky tech and then you'll see. Reason I got rid of the original 160's is because they were like butter too. Everyone I know that's ran anything past 160 is striking pedals to hell. I'm fully aware of line choice and that but an uphill rock garden for example isn't going to be easy, either way.

Ahh thank you for that info, saves me waiting for some Hopes any time soon. I've come from DH biking to ebiking, so I do know when to pedal and when not to. Looking ahead is definitely my strong point.
I'm even running 20% sag on the shock so the bike sits a tad higher.

Seen these but I'm in the UK so not ordering anything from Europe any time soon. People are getting absolutely screwed on import tax.

It does doesn't it! Only 10mm but it's surprising.
My originals were 160, then went to replacement 170's which were terrible. Then jumped straight down to 155 and jeez. Just a shame they're made of cheese.

Hmmm interesting, I'd never thought of that to be fair. Makes total sense when think about it. My vaults are pretty chunky. Crankbros for example are thinner aren't they. Thanks.

The Miranda cranks are on my Shimano e8000. On my eZesty, I have a pair of very swish Praxis 160mm Carbon cranks I have yet to break despite smashing them into nearly every rock I can find.

Yep. Fine. I think it needs them as the back end sags a bit under load and I get tons more pedal strikes than on any other bike I own. I am planning on talking to a suspension tuning shop as I don't think I can fit much else in the way of shocks and the back end could be great with a bit of support. I've got the switch in the middle position all the time and I'd like to be able to ride with it more open.

Not yet. I'm going to be doing a frame up rebuild (have a loose motor bolt and the local distributor warrantied the frame even though I did a permanent repair. Also been given an AM Limited frame to replace my AM9.0 so I have an upgrade. ) in a couple of weeks and I'll have a look at what's inside when I get the original frame stripped. I may get a DPS factory (not much else will fit) and talk to a suspension specialist. Spacers are definitely worth a look. Not sure how many are in there from LaPeirre. I already replaced the 150 Fox fork with a 160mm Lyrik Ultimate which I really like on this bike.
