Shimano EP8 Rattle

Only mentioned in every review of the EP8, ever. Plus every thread on every bike that uses this motor. Like most, in the real world, yes it's there and no it's not the end of the world. And it's not the only motor that has a disengagement rattle.

I know Brose is very loud.........
?
The brose is virtually silent due to its use of a belt - which can have its own issues.
The gen 4 Bosch has the rattle.

The Brose is loud too when it shits a belt or sprag clutch which is usually every 200 miles for 3 months.

It's hard to take anything else seriously after this assertion.
So what was the point of the video? Are you concerned it is faulty? It is normal and merely the noise of the main drive wheel meshing with the pinion both of which are straight cut rather than helical. Straight cut is stronger but noisier. The drive noise can be reduced by allowing a little free play between the straight cut gears. It also reduces wear. That is what Bosch and Shimano have chosen to do.
The rattle happens when you freewheel because of the grab by the chain as the rear suspension moves. It is more noticeable on some bikes than others probably due to different rear triangle arrangements and shock performance.
