Shimano Di2 XT 12spd Rear Derailleur & DU-EP800 Incompatibility

My wife's ebike motor is a Shimano DU-EP800(RS) which isn't compatible with the new Shimano 12 speed Di2 XT Rear Derailleur (requires EP801 motor). I'm wondering if the new derailleur (and shifter) is entirely incompatible with the EP800 or if just the new FreeShift & AutoShift functions won't work and normal Di2 shifting will work. Her bike currently has a XTR 12 speed mechanical groupset. I'm interested in swapping out the rear derailleur and shifter to the new Di2 12 speed if possible. Any ideas about the extent of the incompatibility or how to find out about it would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping I could get away with just a derailleur and shifter swap and I would be off and running.

Do you have any idea if the XT 12 speed derailleur and shifter would work if one installed a Di2 battery independent of the ebike motor?

Havent tried that config but i guess it is not. I di think it is the firmwire for the components that is not matching so guess you will need the ep801 as shimano say

I have tested the rd-m8150 and shifter and it is not compatible with the EP800 at all im afraid
Is it plug and play, meaning can I buy the M8150 derailleur and shifter and install on an ep801? Or does it need to go through a bike shop for additional software configuration? Thanks.

Yes absolut! Once you try it you will love it! Using the free coast shift alot more than i first thought. And the shifting performance is really good

You need to go to a shimano service center, they will Connect through the SM-PCE02 diagnostic box and change it under drive unit settings
