Shimano 625W Battery BT-E8016 Issue

Another joke from Shimano:

It says that: "It has been confirmed that there are cases where the bicycle cannot be started after the BT-E8016 battery has been fully charged. If this occurs, plug the charger into the battery, confirm the LED lights up, then remove the charging plug. This enables the bicycle to be started. Rest assured that this issue has no negative effects on safety. We will inform you as soon as a permanent solution becomes available. "

So if you have this issue while riding your bike in the mountains and far from home, you only need to carry a charger and find a wall outlet wherever you are riding and you can easily fix the issue and carry on.

Don't be silly, there's far easier and safer ways ....

Hej Hej,

Bonjour from Strasbourg, France / Alsace.

I purchased online by Commencal two weeks ago a "new" BT-E8016 630 Wh Gen.1,
but I had to send it back... after more than... 30 emails !!!

Commencal promised me, after this silly struggle,
to give money back, maybe in a month or more and only after the Shimano "verdict".
Commencals attitude was not comprehensive
and answered only with our well knowned french bla-bla, en veux-tu en voilà.

This old battery slept almost unloaded in Commencal's stock
for more than 1 year and 8 months and is now not in a good running order.

Commencal does not inform on its website about the advanced age of its batteries

1st load 602 Wh (minus 13% charger efficiency = 524 Wh) ,
only 81 km by Eco High (60nm/30%) only on the flat macadam beside the river Rhine. In France only 25 km/h Vmax.
2nd load 643 Wh ( minus 13%charger efiiciency = 559 Wh) and only 84 km by he same conditions.

My three BT-E8010 à 504 Wh allowed when new 96 / 115 km by the same conditions.
Now only 46 / 52 km with 105 loads each, and over 33.000 km, only with Eco High also hillup, since the 1. June 2019.
(... 60% after 1000 loads, or 80% after 500 loads is Shimano's bullshit)

Question 1: the PC Shimano App eTube Connect V5 Professional, version 5.1.2.12 (last update),
don't register the number of loads. Is it OK ?

For the first load it is normal, it isn't a complete load. But with the next loads ??

Question 2: what means the sticked blue point ?

Thanks for answers and bonne journée à vous

Hej Hej !

I am not lucky with my Shimano BT-E8016 à 630 Wh.

I sent back the first one to Commencal in Andora and I am waiting for my money.
They wrote, perhaps in... two or three weeks... !

------------

So, I decided to order another one by elektrofahrrad24.de in Germany.

In the meantime elektrofahrrad24.de first sent me two pictures of the code of the BT-E8016 630 Wh
which are on the battery and on its packaging I wanted to by.

UL means manufactured December 2022.

Of course, elektrofahrrad24.de did send me THIS pictured battery with this Code and not an older one.
I recommand elektrofahrrad24.de

Yesterday I made 77,9 km, and 2 Leds remained ON. It is OK.

But today, by Walk Assist when leaving the garage, my Pedelec stopped and display had gone out.

I have now two Leds ON, the first is blinking.

I tried all what we can do, reboot with the battery button,
switch-on switch-off, in the frame, out of the frame,
but I even have two Leds ON, the first is blinking.

I tried also to fix it with my two loaders, but the problem remains,
and we can never turn off the Leds again.

As I'm afraid my battery will catch fire, I put it out on the balcony.

To be sure I tried it with my three BT-E8010 à 504 Wh, and all is OK.

And now?

( ps: Husqvarna stickers are from me )

Shimano is an ugly story:
  1. one dead BT-E8010 à 504 Wh after 2 weeks
  2. one dead E7000 after 1400 km (W013 + E010)
  3. one dead E7000 after 2500 km in Sweden... !!! (W013 + E010)
  4. one worn E8000 (roller bearing right, desperately dead)
  5. one BT-E8016, sold "new" but over 1 year and 8 months old, which I returned
  6. one dead BT-E8016 à 630 Wh after 3 days
  7. a second E8000, but for how long ?
Never Shimano again. My next wil be with Bosch a Riese & Müller SC Dual 625 Wh Smart with 21700 cells

You can see the error code here:

But looks like it is:

Battery overcurrent protection occurred. If it occurs during charging, remove and reconnect the charging plug.
If the situation does not improve, have the place of purchase perform the following:
  • Connect a genuine SHIMANO battery. Also check the power cord for abnormalities. If the error persists, contact your distributor.

In less than a week, sent me elektrofahrrad24.de my money back,
and this before my BT-E8016 returned back to them !!!
And we needed ONLY three emails to fix it !!!
I recommand elektrofahrrad24.de

After more than... thirty ( 30 ) emails since the beginning of this month,
Commencal wrote me again, I have to wait two or three weeks.

Question 1: does somebody know if Shimano fixed this issue, and how?

It says that: "It has been confirmed that there are cases where the bicycle cannot be started after the BT-E8016 battery has been fully charged. If this occurs, plug the charger into the battery, confirm the LED lights up, then remove the charging plug. This enables the bicycle to be started. Rest assured that this issue has no negative effects on safety. We will inform you as soon as a permanent solution becomes available. "

I do not want to try to purchase for the third time a BT-E8016, if I have to return it back because of this issue after a full load.

Shimano never published since 3 years a confirmation, they fixed it.

Question 2: does somebody know if the PC app eTube Project V5, last version, shows the number of full loads of the BT-E8016?

The App shows the number of loads with my three BT-E8010.
