Hi, looking for a bit of advice please.
starting to plan a 2-3 day trip to somewhere in Scotland, but don’t have a clue where to start? it will just be 2 of us so we are looking for a hotel for a few nights with access to some Mtb trails….nothing really difficult, maybe fire track and forests with some climbing up to scenic locations. We live in Cheshire so don’t want to be going as far as say Inverness. Can anyone suggest any good locations please with accommodation nearby? Thanks…d

The obvious choice would be the Tweed Valley ...Glentress/ Innerleithen..and should your skill level dictate the Golfie trails ..its in the Border region ..as far as accomodation ..cant really recommend anywhere ..but there's loads to choose from in that area ..

I was going to suggest Glentress/Innerleithen, it’s the closest/best place to England. If you want “real” views you’ll need to go further north, I’d suggest Fort Bill but that’s probably further than you want to travel.

The minch moor circuit from Innerleithen is decent if looking for something more xc. Can use some of the red trails as part of it, and also extend it further if you wanted.

Another vote for Glentress! Has everything you're looking for. Great mix of trails with options of fire road or single track climb to the top 👌🏻 good shop/cafe too

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago.
Fantastic place 5mls out of inners, 2.5 to the golfie and about the same to glentress.
We had the weather so didn't need to get anywhere for a drink, the grounds were good enough.
Paid £85 each/ 3nts thru booking. Com based on 5 staying, might get cheaper direct .
Might be back soon but just with the vans.

looks ideal, do they have anywhere for the bikes overnight or can you take them into your room? 😀

I think Ted offered to put em in the lockup but we just kept them in the vans.
Have a look on Google earth where it is, couldn't be any better

The Gypsy Glen route opposite Glentress is a nice easy ride for an evening, only around 14 miles but takes in some great views of the valley

Also, just a word of warning if doing parts of the Innerleithen red route, the descent down to the adrenaline car park is simple enough but does have one section with a series of drops that get progressively larger from around 2ft to around 5ft. They can catch you unaware if you’re not expecting them

Loads of places would be brilliant and fit your bill. Do you like mountain scenery or coastal, or both . I would look at ordnance survey maps . But borders and Glentress are ideal and not too far if coming from England .

The lads from Pinned tv always seem to stay at the Traquir arms which is a bawhair from Inners and a 10 minute pedal to the Golfie
The Golfie is a proper test of rider ability as it’s got some proper steep ass clenching trails
Inners and GT have red an blue if your not into the steeper stuff

Check out Kirroughtree, it's south west Scotland. The trails are excellent every bit as good as Glentress in my opinion. You've also got Mabie forest, Dalbeatie trail centre and Ae trail centre that are all fairly close by but Kirroughtree is by far the best.

Inners doesn't have blue routes ..just Downhill & a Red graded XC route ..
Well worth checking the forestry websites before heading anywhere as the clear-up from Arwen is still ongoing ..
