Different people different like. I love super (ultra) soft when the trail are super hard. At my place at the moment its so hard that no tire can dig in to get some grip. You would need to put stud to dig in 😂😂.the trail is hard like concrete.

So the Super soft compound will give better grip like if you use soft compound tire on a race car.

I use Albert SS now and before maxxis Disector super soft compound (maxx grip) at rear in summer.
I often cut down the center knob on my tire with the schwalbe tread cutter to get faster rolling.
A rear tire in those super soft compound last almost a month. some will say it's expensive. I think that compare to when I ski in winter it's very cheap ( Ski pass) 😊😊😊😊

If your trails are anything like mine in the UK (South coast) I would save them for autumn/winter.........everything here is bone dry and rock hard so no need for soft rubber or heavy tread.......I'm using tyres at £ 25 a go in the various sales......and they will be shredded before we start getting some rain again.

Rode with Mrs irie yesterday on the South Downs, chalk dust everywhere and trails are like concrete. Heavy rain storm forecast overnight but water will just run off and not soften terrain.

It’s natural techical single tracks, lot’s of roots and rocks…and bike parks (hopefully) and it’s been dry on for couple of days this summer 😀. I’ve been riding 2.6 Alberts for a while and they offer soooooo much comfort and grip. They are now on my Levo now and just love them.
 
I'm using the Albert Gravity 2.6, front and rear, on my Levo G3. I like this tire on the front — it seems to follow your line better than many others, mainly because the side knobs are smaller. But on the rear, I don't think it's the right tire. It has more rolling resistance, and in fast corners, the way it deforms doesn't feel stable. I will replace the rear tire and try that.

Did you get some in the end? I've just gone from Conti DH casing super soft front / soft rear to radial Magic Marys front US rear S on the DH bike - off to Dyfi this weekend so interested to see how they hold up on the fast steep jumps there.

I imagine I'll end up with a set on my bullit too once I've worn out the tyres I have for it.

What sort of increase in pressures are people generally going with as a starting point?

I'm not going up by that much, increase of around 3 psi with the Gravity Pros.

Front- Magic Mary Gravity Pro Ultra Soft 29 - 22psi
Rear - Magic Mary Gravity Pro Soft 27.5 - 25 psi
 
70kg+24kg bike.

Front: Shredda rear 2.5, super soft - 25psi tubeless

Rear: Magic Mary soft 2.5 - 30psi tubeless.
 
78kg+22kg bike.
Front: Shredda rear 2.5, super soft 25-28psi tubeless
Rear: Shredda rear 2.5, super soft 29-33psi tubeless.
All depending on the size of the jumps, rocky or not, pushing hard turns etc.
 
92kg + 22kg Rise
Front - 29" MM Gravity 2.5 US - 20psi
rear - 29" Albert Gravity 2.6 US - 26psi

the Albert was on the front but moved it back when the 2.5 S got worn down
going to try a Shredda 2.5 Gravity rear on the rear next
(the 2.6 Albert is going on the front of the missus bike as it's too tight for the frame and mudguard really)

I found the Magic Mary quite a change from the Albert (and previous Minion DHF) it really holds it line
you can't be lazy and let the tyre take up the slack when choosing your line.
Got used to it now - but had a few moments in loam...
 
I put a Shredda on the back and I've now managed to wash out the Mary on the front 3 or 4 times
I do think I am going quicker through some local nasty stuff though

the Soft Albert I had wore quick, I dread to think how quick the Rear Shredda in Ultra soft will wear
be good if they offered Soft in the Shredda Rear

Out of curiosity what sort of conditions?

I've gone for Maxxis Shorty front last two winters because of the wet muddy woods close to me. I've just purchased the front Shredda (to replace Assegai) but wondering whether to go full on replacing the dhr at the with the rear Shredda as well. Maybe not the most aggressive riding but hoping it keeps me upright once the South Yorkshire weather gets wetter and muddy.

Dry rocky and dusty trails with some moon dust, and clay packed fast trails with leaves that are slippery. That and the yellow dry grass is super slick if you get off trail a little.

They are designed for wet n muddy conditions which I will have in 6 weeks.

Best tires ive have used, and i ride very aggressive. Scorpions are almost as good and might last longer

That's really good to hear. It's been quite dry for us, unusually, this year. But we'll also be be getting those wet n muddy conditions soon (seem to be arriving now actually) and generally anything without spaced out larger tread knobs doesn't clear and ends up being like a mud / clay slick. Very tempted to buy a rear as well now.
 
Now everyone has had a good year on these radial tyres , what’s the preferred psi for the sweet spot front and back ?

Magic Mary ultrasoft 29 front
Albert soft 27.5 rear …… 🤷‍♀️

Shredda front 26-27 and rear 30-32, any lower and they fold if push hard in corners, takeoffs, and landings.
77-78kg naked…

If you get used to it, and it takes some time, you can push a little harder in corners, and you do get a soother faster corner.

Only the rear folds a little at a little lower pressure that you can feel.
