Hello forum,
Does anyone have experience replacing the shifter on a Scott Patron eRide?
Has anyone done this before?

The cables are routed internally through the frame. The outer housing is still in good condition.
I only rode the bike for a few weeks last season and wasn’t very happy with the SRAM SX shifter. It feels kind of vague and doesn’t give a good, precise feel.

After reading up on it a bit, I’m considering replacing it with a SRAM GX shifter.
My only concern is feeding the new shift cable through the frame.

The idea would be to leave the black outer housing in place and simply slide the new inner cable into the existing housing.
But if the housing isn’t continuous, how do you get the cable through?

Replacing everything with new housing probably won’t make it any easier.

I can’t find any access point in the top tube near the rear shock,
and in the down tube there’s the battery mount.

Any tips?

The only easy way is to drop the motor out and then you can see where the cable goes and replace the lot.

Thank you.

That doesn’t sound good. So much effort just because of a new shifter.
The old SRAM SX isn’t defective; I just don’t like how it feels.

Name a recognisable bike brand that doesn't have a fully sleeved gear housing. Any frame with internal routing will be a continuous outer housing.
Thank you.

You'll be fine. Pull the cable out and route the new one for the shifter.

The only weird thing about the eRIDE Patron is it uses Jagwire housings, which are thinner than most.

Just leave the housing in place and run a new cable through. Assuming the new cable has a tidy end with no fraying it should be quite east.

If you need to route a new housing you can also try using these:

That sounds better. I hope you are right.
I do have a bit of concern that it might not work.

I also had the idea of connecting the new shift cable to the old one, maybe with a thin piece of heat-shrink tubing.
But if the housing is tighter than usual, that probably won’t work.

It will work fine, just make sure you clip the cable at the derailleur end so you have a nice tidy cable to pull through.

Feed the new one through carefully and you'll be fine.

That's your last resort, if your new shifter and gear able don't improve things.

Also, consider this as a good upgrade. Makes a world of difference.

Thanks a lot. I’ll give it a try soon.
I’ll take a look at the part from the clip.

I’ll report back on how it worked.

I changed my SX to a NX and just fed the inner cable into the outer cable that was already fitted and it was very easy to connect to my NX derailleur, I bought the NX shifter that connects to the brake clamp and everything is perfect.

Does the inner cable "need" replacing? I would be inclined to leave the old inner, fit the new shifter and see how it feels. Only if you're not happy, then it may be worth replacing the inner cable?

Thanks. That’s helpful as well.
I’m also planning to use the “Matchmaker” clamp.

If you are able to remove the cable that is already on your bike do what I did and reuse it as it is already cut to size I did mine in an hour and it looks great.

I don’t think that will work. The shift cable is routed through the lever from the “back,” and there’s a stopper at the end of the cable

When I bought the NX Shifter I opened the rubber cover and took the cable off and then fed the one off the SX Shifter was used and fitted perfectly.

The GX I’m planning to get comes complete with a new inner cable.

As did my NX Shifter it is up to you which you'll put in, the reason I put the one I removed is because it is a Jagwire cable which is smooth and slick moving.

Personally I'd advise against any matchmaker clamp(s). They result in compromised ergonomics.

It’s original also on the left side of the Patron, and I can handle that just fine there.

If not, there’s also a “SRAM discrete clamp” included with the shifter.

Of course! Sorry - I just replaced the cable on my dropper post, and that was pulled through the opposite way around, so that's what was in my mind!

In your case, I would suggest... remove the inner cable first. Swap out the shifter. Fit the old cable and see how it feels. If it's still not great, then remove the old inner cable and feed a new one through. If it still feels sticky, then you're looking at replacing the outer also. I dropped the motor out of my Whyte when I replaced the gear cable last year - inner and outer.

The outer will be a continuous run through the frame.

Viel Glück und viel Spaß dabei!

Hello everyone.
Today it wasn’t so cold.
The conversion went smoothly. The pre-installed shift cable on the GX shifter slid through the housing without any problems.

Thanks again to everyone.
