There are none right? An alternative would be "SM-CRE80-12-B" from Shimano which is available in 34T and works properly with the 12 speed Shimano chain. Can't use it with the chain guide though.

People here have reported breaking their E*Thirteen direct mount chainrings at the mounting point which makes it impossible to remove going forward.

Just to confirm - The one that's on there as standard is 32T isn't it?

I'm amazed there aren't more options yet - e-bikes are heavy on chainrings.

There are other chainguide options if the Rise one doesn't clear it.

OneUp - E-BIKE - STEPS/EP8 will be good quality. Plus others listed here - New chain guide needed.... - EMTB Forums (which confirms the bcd of the EP8 guide mount is NOT ISCG)

I’m running a Shimano spider with a Wolftooth 32 ring. I can’t use the chain guide, but that’s not caused any drops. Can also get to the motor bolts easier.

So the chain guide fouls the spider? I wonder how the other chain guides miss it (theres not a lot of space there)

With the ring/spider having 4 bolts, that’s where it gets thicker compared to a direct mount chainring. There are 2 options for the Wolftooth ring, Drop stop ST is required for the newer Shimano Hyperglide + chains

For people wanting to buy non Shimano chainrings, the spider part number is

Shimano Spider for 53mm chainline: Y1VY00020
FSA Spider for 53mm chainline: CR1770 (Manufacturer Part # 380-0455000050)

as for chainrings

Wolftooth sells 104BCD,32 T, Drop-Stop ST (for Shimano12 speed) like what GTBusso stated.
RaceFace sells 104BCD, 32T for Shimano 12 speed

Gotta replace the stock chain guide for sure as it won't work with the spiders above.

Has anyone fitted the RaceFace 104BCD 32T on to the Shimano Spider? I read in another forum that they are not compatible. Would really like to know. Thanks.

Nukeproof Steps chain guide down to £20 on CRC right now. Also saw a 20% off everything for OneUp somewhere but can't see their one is worth £60 or even £40 (the NP guide/bash I just bought for another bike is just as nice as the OUp one I've got already)

Damn stupid of Orbea to design a guide that doesn't work with the shimano spider.

Pretty sure it was designed by E*Thirteen to only work with their offerings.

It will bolt up (104bcd), it just looks weird as the shimano spider's inner wings only look flush when using a shimano chainring. The RaceFace 104BCD 32T chainring for Shimano 12speed has a different profile on the tabs so looks like there's a gap.

Here's what the RaceFace 32T Shimano 12s chainring looks like on the FSA Shimano EP8 spider. Lighter too - 136 grams vs 176 grams).

Shimano spider with 34T Chainring for Shimano 12-speed (SM-CRE80-12-B)

I kept the FSA setup as replacement chainrings for Shimano are unobtanium (Y0KJ34100) right now and it's lighter.

Picking up this thread again. Need a replacement chainring ASAP.
Nearly 3 years on and the only option still seems to be the aluminium E*13 at £75rrp. The steel version should be half that and is fitted to the newest rises but is 'unavailable' at E13 UK/EU stores.

(for any other motor seem to be lots of options at about £25)

What's the cheapest/best value option for Shimano at 32T, ideally working with the existing chain guide. Am I really just stuck buying the same E13?

Did anyone attempt to use Shimano SM-CRE80 spider with Raceface 32T chainring? If you have a picture, please post!!

Thanks!

Options are still pretty limited as far as I can see.

I think long term, the most cost effective solution is the Shimano spider that coverts to 104bcd. There are plenty of options for chainring then.

I think we need to get together and email some manufacturers and request a solution. The Hope Retainer would be great but they don't do a 32. The Wolftooth only comes as a 55mm offset.

The Rise sold in huge numbers so there must be a market for a chainring in the right size with the right offset.

I did email wolftooth requesting reduced offset a while ago. They basically said we're not making one especially for you but would consider it if we get enough interest.

I would imagine Hope would say the same thing.

Really odd - the straight replacement E13 is expensive (and few places have it in stock), the steel ring thats cheaper and has been fitted to the new Rise for almost a year doesn't appear to be for sale anywhere aftermarket. Cost of Shimano ring/spider and a new chain guide is more than the E13.

whereas other motors seem to have loads of options for half the price of the E13

After struggling to find eThirteen OEM chainring, spending 70 euros an praying for a fast shipment enough to avoid a dry spell, I decided to investigate in case of eThirteen 32t 53mm CL chainring shortage next time.

Shimano part number for 53mm CL spider, compatible with any 104BCD chainring is Y1VY00020.
Funny thing is that spider seems to be common for SM-CRE80 B, SM-CRE80-12-B, and... SM-CRE70 B.

So I just ordered a super cheap unit of the latest with a 9-10-11 chainring (but at 16 Euro!). My plan is to detach the chainring and replace with any 32T - 12s - 104bcd one out there as insurance in case of need!

I don't plan to use the 34t, 11s chainring. My intention is to get a cheap 53mm Chain Line spider to stay with 32t. Any 104 bcd chainring would fit the spider, so I am not tied to a single vendor in case there's no stock in the future.

Just to be clear - you're saying the spider is the same across all the Shimano 'chainring/spider' combos. Can you point us where you found it very cheap? link?

(and a quick search shows they exist in both 53 an 55mm chain lines - we want the 53, right?)

No! The spider is the same for a few combos, not all. Different spiders for different CLs have different part numbers starting with Y. The one I put above is for the spiders with 53.mm CL and common to at least all combos like SM-CRE80-B and 80-12-B with 34t, 36t, etc. Also shared with 70-B and 70-12-B, etc. So I just looked for cheapest with that part number I put, that tends to be 11 speed rings in 70 series, and ordered at my LBS.
No intention to use the chainring in the combo whatsoever, just getting cheapest spider to freedom :p

I hope is clear now. I will need to wait couple of weeks to get it (will be travelling) and check if I was right with theory....
