Pic of the Day

Its like the maintenance cost is now built into the cost of a trail. Back a while ago there was the cost to build the trail and the trail builders knew that had a 1yr warranty period to make it 100%.

in 2010 $50k would have built 10km of trail, now that shit would be swallowed by feasibility studies, advocacy and planning. Now, $50k would build probably 2km.
Studies to investigate earlier studies give a ringing coin in the coffers and is big business.

Mate ..what are you doing ?
First rule of being a Northumbrian ..dont show our world class beaches to the Southern hordes ..for fear of a tourist invasion..
You need to re-visit the rule book again ..😂
Too late .. I showed the video to the camp of friendly ‘travellers’ who are parked a few miles away…… they are on the way, should be there tomorrow. Happy to help.

Still not able to ride at the moment after my OTB in early March. Still getting out with plenty of local walks.
This morning on a packed bank holiday at Druridge Bay, Northumberland. Me, my good lady and my son’s dog Colin. View attachment 185054View attachment 185055View attachment 185056View attachment 185057
An absolutely beautiful and peaceful place to start the day.
Yes a pity your still not biking yet, heading South tomorrow who knows where I will end up.

Nope... What goes up, must come down ☝️

Guy I rode with today is a lecturer at an agriculture college, so knows this stuff. It's less mad than it appears, first it gives farmers a guaranteed income so not subject to the markets, it's to encourage bee populations & lastly, rejuvenates the soil for next year when it will be wheat or oilseed rape or whatever.

Also the hottest day of the year & he forgot his water bottle ha ha.

Managed to grab a couple of hours on the bike from home this afternoon ..
1.5 miles from the door into the south eastern tip of Kielder Forest ( Pundershaw ) to take in some tracks which I hadnt ridden in a while ..good to see that they werent overgrown which in a forest this vast ( 250sq.miles ) can very easily happen ..

Just to the left of the tree the hill in the very far distance is Deadwater Fell at Kielder...15 miles away ..
On zoom..

The house at Allerybank ..now powered by solar panels ( previously a generator) ..its literally in the middle of the forest with nothing else for miles around ..
A few years ago I was offered the use of this house whenever the owners who lived in Yorkshire werent using it themselves as a security measure ..didnt really fancy the responsibility ..so passed up on the offer ..its since been sold to new owners ..and as can be seen is a work in progress ..
The bridleway next to the house was tough going and needs a trim !

Managed to plough on and just missed 2 mins of the Championship playoff final ..
Well done Hull city ..tough way to lose Boro in added time ..
P.s Can we buy Hayden Hackney off you now ..he wouldnt need to move home 😉

Do Deadwater red route ..then follow on with the Osprey Trail ( Blue) .( Im not including the Downhill section on Deadwater)
Call in to the Bike Hire shop for advice which is opposite the Castle .
You will enjoy the blue ..it has a fair chunk of forest road after the initial singletrack to link up to the remaining (singletrack) but the final sections have some of the finest flowing trails in the entire forest before spitting you out onto the Lakeside Way which you follow back to the Castle ..
Osprey is about 13 miles ..if you have any battery left and are still feeling fit head over to the other side of the valley and tackle Skydive go directly up the fire road following the signs for the observatory ..
Hope you enjoy it ..and apologies that Im unable to join you ( I wish I could but Im working )
