Hundreds over the years usually when hill walking and normally tiny . Bigger one last year on side still alive when I removed it. It takes months before the bite marks go away on me for some reason . Not so easy to get out in one piece the tiny ones . All the tools I've bought total waste of time as tics too small ,tweezers best we find.

I had a ball of the tiny bastards explode over my tan tousers in the new forest decades ago - thought I'd got rid of them all - until my first wee break at work on the monday - one sat bang in the centre of me bell - oh how we laughed...
I use Life systems tick tweezers - they're fine - unless the missus is using them on a hard to reach spot in which case the ticks just keep on digging deeper until she screams no more - I'm done!

Had an insane ride up the local last night, trails were running amazing
Hahaha all clean now. Wish I hadn't because I can see some chips in the paint

I was out with my mate John yesterday (Monday), planning a route for a guided ride (date to be announced later). We came across this fallen tree. As you can see it is rotten from top to bottom. You can't see the top in the pic, but trust me, it was rotten all the way to the top. Estimated length well over 60 feet long.
There is a trail there, and the tree fell right across it. Because of the shrubbery it fell from and landed in, we had to cross over it. Just behind my bike is where the tree broke apart as it fell. John tried breaking it apart as it was so clearly rotten, but without serious impact. The thing is that the tree hadn't fallen when John passed that way on Fri afternoon. We have no idea when it fell, but it could so easily have got him! But in those woods we don't tend to ride when it's windy, all you can hear is creaking! There were three other smaller (7-8" dia) trees down and John volunteered to bring his electric chainsaw to deal with them while I have a week off or so.

Apparently they don make any noise, when they fall, if no one is around to hear it.
But that’s a close call…wow.
Worked on a popular trail yesterday and widened a pinch point that would catch our peddles. Between an old stump and a feature.
Took a few hours but eventually I got it.
A few days earlier, and 50’ away, this rotten snag fell across the same trail.
Those things will hurt if your timing is just right …doesn’t matter what size they are. And yes, those windy days can be a bit risky…or they just decide to fall.

Safer in the forests imo.
I had a bad video of a local lad honking down the brae in Cullen. Car turned in front of him . Surprisingly ok. Another local went in to vehicle that stopped suddenly never walk again. Both roadies , so your safer in woods as you say.I think crossing a road with your bike is extremely risky (for me anyway).

I can recall many close call I’ve had as a roadie and a couple of incidents. I’ve only had one incident on our trails as a MTB’er…it was that jogger, wearing a white head-band and listening to his earbuds. He did even stop when I went otb to avoid him. Ffs
I would have done my best to avoid him, but I would not risk injuring myself to not actually make contact. He's the stupid one. . It was those hidden rocks that caused the problem. Time to file up the chain again. Back in the day, the Tree-Huggers use to spike our trees and then make the claim. That was really bad for the mill workers.
But it was transparent fishing line wrapped around the base of trees that was extremely hazardous for us. Tripping hazards everywhere. An entire area would be deemed “out of bounds “. Escape routes would become impossible.
