Pic of the Day

Tried out my new 7idp Sam Hill knee guards today. A little warm but no chafing. Level 2 protection but fortunately I didn’t test that today.

Good on ya. You want to maintain those sexy legs for as long as possible. Before I learned the lessons that can only be learned by the spilling of blood, I'd never wear knee protection. I have the scars to prove it. My life's dream of becoming a leg model are dashed. Nowadays, it's a very rare day that I'll go out without protection.

Agreed I haven't worn them for years but had them on today. The amount of people that are hurting themselves is scary , I met a lad today his mate went off a berm where I was today. Punctured lung 12 broken ribs on his own pure luck he was found. Older people like me should know better really. I have a PLB did I have it with me today nope 🙅‍♂️

Those pads are covering the scars on my "sexy" legs because I wasn't smart enough to purchase them after the first bloodletting.

Today I’m out looking for an alternative little house, just in case a missile makes it over here too...

On descents, the new fork seems to do its job.

On the way back home, the GPS was flagging a ford crossing—I’m not so sure I trust it though...

I ran across a guy yesterday that was riding without a helmet. He was bald as a billiard ball and burned to a crisp. Expensive eMTB, riding shorts and a jersey (no gloves) but absolutely no protection. The old saying was "if you have a $10 head, buy a $10 dollar helmet".

On the same subject I see people in summer riding motorcycles and scooters with no gloves. First thing you do if you get knocked over is put your hands out. It takes seconds to strip the flesh off hands back to the bone. Wife is medical and saw it many times when she worked in hospitals. As ex motorcyclists we always wear gloves when eMTB ing.

I see you couldn't give up that disco-colored seat. When do the matching grips and pedals arrive? Come on, you know you want them. We won't judge you.
Disco coloured?
My choice of saddle has been the same ..probably for the last 20 years ..an SDG Bel Air ..
Colour wouldnt have been the prime motivation for buying that particular saddle ..price would have been with maybe a nod to the fact the bike might be seen if I was lying upside down in a ditch 😉
Matching pedals and grips ?
No my friend you have read me wrong ..Im not that much of a bike tart to be remotely interested 😂

Need bearings for this .First shop said special tool required 2nd said Allen key but didn't have size so googled it said unserviceable part replacement only. 3rd just scratched his head. Much as I would love to use LBS you can't expect them to have knowledge of everything. Posted to Berkshire cycles . Need a set of spare wheels for sure.

It's just a standard (but Specialized branded) XD driver, no?

Lots of guides on how to replace the bearings on YouTube (example below), but it might be easier to just buy a whole new freehub body.

You need to take that bit in pic off it has 12 faces so not an Allan key. Seemingly 4 different types of XD Driver.

That's what one said but £80 . Not good for 1700 miles and under a year old. But if bearings are 30 as well replacing. See what I get charged sometimes I only pay postage with these folk.

Aye, you'd expect it to last longer than that, but I suppose they're under more stress on a ebike.

£80 is steep, but when it comes to stuff like this I cost up the part(s) I need to replace vs tools, time and effort.

Yes if you have to buy special tools etc it gets costly. Plus I find I'm not so mechanical as I used to be . I know we do a lot more miles on ebikes but the maintenance is a lot more than I ever did on analogue bikes. Bring back the days when you could turn a hooked chainring round about and get another couple of years out of it , and buy 10 metres of chain .

Fanny Pads? Please tell us that means fender or long pants in Scotland because here in the US, well, that might be a little too much information about your condition and/or lifestyle.
Another use of fanny in this sort of context is fannybaws (fannyballs), a term of abuse for a useless person, generally male. Or just general abuse/banter saying he's got a fanny for baws. We had a "builder", I use this term loosely as he was the most incompetent that I've ever seen, who was replacing roof on our conservatory. He was so bad I had to tell him how to cut angles and what angle to cut the rafters.
I started referring to him as fannybaws because I couldn't make myself call him by his name. My wife who usually doesn't swear or give people abuse was so annoyed by him she would call him that too when we were talking about him.

I love our Scots language. :)

Remember working in Nigeria with South Africans they told me you would frazzle in SA if you were out in sun all day like we are here. I found that out a year later. Didn't know 70 SPA sun factor existed till then.
I was in Hong Kong and I had forgotten to take my SPF 15 with me. We must have gone into a dozen stores and small shops and the lowest SPF I could buy was 100 and they went up to 130!! They were all thick and greasy (and the one I bought was sticky as well!). So unlike the water resistant, light spray one that I got in Boots the chemist back in the UK.

Day off - lesson learned today:
When planning routing on PC forget about the doted tracks if you did not ride them before!

Weather check before taking off. Perfect conditons, worldwide:

My point of return after having had minimum 10 of such and even worse blockades to crawl over or under.. Good job by the rangers to leave the trees and keep MTBlers out 😕
