About the only time I think the hills are pretty in Southern California is about a week after a heavy rain storm.

Haha this is about a week and a half after. The trail is mostly dry but all the fire roads to get to the single track trails are destroyed. The dirt here is a mixture of sandy and some clay so it gets very slick in the days right after the rainErr, is that before or after the heavy rainstorm?![]()

That first pic brought back a few memories of my time in 1st N.W.Durham Boys Brigade ..cant say " pleasant" to be honest ..more of a chore each week polishing your belt buckle, cap badge & shoes..and making sure your lanyard was whiter than white ready for " inspection" ..before a bout of square bashing ..wasnt my idea of fun but I did enjoy the (what felt like but probably wasnt 20+ a side ) football in a very small hall at the side of the chapel at the end of the night ..total mayhem where you could kick 7 kinds of shite out of kids you didnt like..then if you survived that ordeal you might get picked for the team on Saturday1st ride of the year snow has taken a shift in our area anyway. Yes Neil I didn't last long in the BBS (bubbly beaks) too strict . Sea Cadets was my one , I loved that sailors uniform . Lossiemouth was Navy then I remember a week staying there. Got a a day trip on a frigate once. Saying that we still have Boys Brigade and Army Cadets in town ,Scouts and Sea Cadets long gone. Tried them all but the Sailers uniform was the one for me.That first pic brought back a few memories of my time in 1st N.W.Durham Boys Brigade ..cant say " pleasant" to be honest ..more of a chore each week polishing your belt buckle, cap badge & shoes..and making sure your lanyard was whiter than white ready for " inspection" ..before a bout of square bashing ..wasnt my idea of fun but I did enjoy the (what felt like but probably wasnt 20+ a side ) football in a very small hall at the side of the chapel at the end of the night ..total mayhem where you could kick 7 kinds of shite out of kids you didnt like..then if you survived that ordeal you might get picked for the team on Saturday![]()
Last time I trespassed on a railway a light came round corner so I dived in to side with massive back pack on. Nearly broke my ankleQuite a bit of mud today, but still a great ride in the Vipava Valley — muddy sections, railway tracks, river crossings and… darkness!

Obviously we did it all safely. Other people were walking along the railway too, and the rails were clearly rusted. There was no other option — the only road was blocked by earthworks.Last time I trespassed on a railway a light came round corner so I dived in to side with massive back pack on. Nearly broke my ankle, it was the station light. Just remembered i tell a lie I pushed a bike across Taynuilt station last year . Sign said look and listen so I did then crossed ,sign on other side said trespassers £1000 fine. Still waiting for a letter. Auld man rambling.
I walked a lot of hills so crossing railway was regularly done. One near miss that i can remember, it's surprising how close a train gets before you actually hear it. Stay safeObviously we did it all safely. Other people were walking along the railway too, and the rails were clearly rusted. There was no other option — the only road was blocked by earthworks.
