Pic of the Day

It’s basically a lot of rain over a short period of time (20hrs). It’s not cats’n’dogs rain…it’s more like cows’n’camels.

Another one is expected in a few hours. We get a lot of rain here but 2 in a row 🤷‍♂️. Our streets become rivers.
I can imagine what you mean. I experienced a flash flood while driving with a car in Milwaukee.

Mushrooms? Be warned. Nothing to joke about. We had a wet summer and mushrooms are growing all over. Inexperienced people go and pick them, rely on phone apps to identify and eat them. All apps tested did not work well!
There are currently some kids at hospital with severe liver disease, some need transplants. Just because of eating death cap mushrooms.

Well, it’s over now. Just have to deal with a few damages and puddles.

Edible if prepared correctly, and hallucinogenic - allegedly Viking Beserkers ate them before going mental. Might be worth eating before trying a triple black DH route . .
It's the only way that I would try a triple black route.
I didn't know they even existed, but I can imagine. Where do they rank vs a black diamond?

Still getting the good weather up here, till end of week i hear. Went along the coast to Cullen then up the Binhill. Came past Letterfourie House on my way home looks like they've dropped the price its under offer for just under 3 million . Not sure if that includes the nearby bridge that Bonnie Prince Charlie slept under..George an old acquaintance of mine was born in the house.

Currently down to one working car in the Hodgson household and with my missus needing to use it I can't travel anywhere to ride during the week and the sick one won't get fixed until mid next week ..so I was extremely happy when Wayne said he would travel over to start a ride from my door .
The day started very cold and although not raining the ground conditions were saturated on the first moorland section we started on ...with the forest not much better but hell it was fun ..
Kielder is a large forest (250sq miles )and is still suffering the after affects of Storm Arwen ..with a lot of fallen trees that may never be cleared so it's still a bit of a lottery as to where you can ride ..the first few pics of Wayne are on a section we made passable over a year ago ..
The second batch at Shitlington Crags near the end of the ride.. when the day had turned out as forecast with sunshine & blue skies ..
Really appreciate you coming over mate ..thanks 👍🏻

Nice move getting under that felled tree, I can almost hear the curses. Dreading going down to one car but when wife retires in two years that's the plan can't justify the cost even now.

Had a great ride out today with me auld mucca @The Hodge. It started in fine bright sunshine when I left mine on the coast to drive the hour or so to Bellingham, West Northumberland only for the weather to turn to cold, dull, windy and damp. We headed out across very wet and sometimes boggy trails ( makes a bit of a mockery about not washing your Ebike in fear of getting water past certain seals). One thing proved today on our first real Autumn ride is that my recently purchased RRP pro rear mudguard it little more than useless at keeping your ass dry or preventing sleck covering the rear of the bike!
Once into the Forest conditions were a little better

Neil exiting the gloom of one of the many singletrack routes we navigated. We stopped at the Skipjack half way house on Backaburn Lough for a spot of lunch with a view. Saying that the widow cleaner will be getting the old heave ho seeing the state of the window's

Had to put the one in with trees and a blue sky as it is bit of a rarity.
Headed out on to open rolling, beautiful West Northumberland hills with the weather doing its best to make the day special

Then home to clean every thing

Was a really good impromptu day out in excellent company, cheers mate. Oh thanks for the use of ya shed/changing room.

Strava stats tho top speed a little ambitious 😂

New sign where I ride regularly. I wonder what happened to prompt this? I bet it was exciting for somebody!

FWIW, I've hiked and ridden here for more than 30 years. I've seen bobcats, but never a mountain lion (aka puma, cougar, panther). I'd like to spot one (at a safe distance!).

Final option - fight it!! 🤔😬🤣🤣

Another day out to survey the damages caused by the atmospheric river. Surprisingly the trails are fairly good. But the access roads to our mountain took a beating.

Gonna need some machinery, money, and volunteers for these repairs.

Search and rescue was activated and unfortunately 3 people lost their lives in 2 different locations on this mountain. Burke Mountian.

That's more than a little bit devastating ..especially the loss of life .
Fingers crossed you get everything in place to return the landscape back to some kind of normal .
Good luck 👍🏻

Did you try setting it with cold water after straightening under the hot?
Mmm can't remember, I tied it with string though. It doesn't bother me and I wouldn't want to lise the ugliest mudguard top slot. Could do again though

We are a small blip on the radar compared to other regions in our area (BC). I estimate that about 2/3rds of our access to trails has been cutoff. Most trails have faired fairly well, that I’ve seen, but the main access roads (3) have acted like funnels and the water erosion was too great.

I expect some help from BC Hydro since they will need access to the higher up towers. Financial help from our provincial government will likely be slim. This has left several of our volunteer trail builders scratching our heads. “What now?”

This amount o damage could be a blessing or a curse. Time will tell. I expect that a few of the bridges that I built are destroyed. We (trail builders) are going to focus on repairs for the existing trails.

Surface water management will now become a priority …that’s the blessing.

Good to have people like you guys! Likely there will be interest by railroad or pipeline companies for prevention measures, a.o. to protect their existing and planned long distance lines from destruction by such events. Maybe local companies could be interested to sponsor private initiatives like you Trail Builders with money or machine power to accelerate rebuilding the areas.
Keep being positive! We had terrible flooding by exceptional rain event some years ago in smaller valleys causing wide spread massive destruction of housing and infrastructure. Very soon there was overwhelming private support from allover Germany to come with men and materials for clean up and rebuild on a voluntary basis. Not for days - for months! and very well self-organized in this chaos.
Canadians will do even better, I am sure!👍

(Re)fitted my mudrocker a few weeks back, which generally works well, but even this wasn’t enough for the North Yorkshire moors yesterday … rode the route from Lordstones I did with some of you guys in mid-August (27 miles, 3600ft) and significant parts of it were a mudfest. A very different and harder ride, but I felt okay at the end so my Covid is (like the mudrocker…) definitely behind me 😊

Disgusting 🫣 . Dry wash folk go on about won't clean that.

I think you’re right, a re-think is in the process now because nobody wants to absorb these costs. Our area has been able to deal with exception rains…but not this much, in a short period of time. We all know that it’s not going to get any better.
