FFS as one door shuts another Siam’s in ya face

We postponed Hamsterley and the day with the suspension guy as the forecast was icy and also today was practice runs for the TT event tomorrow

Decided to go to Grenoside / Wharncliffe instead, all excited for the Rise’s maiden voyage. Didn’t get out of the car park as the motor kept turning off as soon as I turned the cranks. Took it straight back to the bike shop, 95 miles north of Sheffield!

Once we dropped the bike off, drove home to collect the full fat, took it to our local woods at Yearsley. There’s a ramp built into a little downhill trail there that we like messing around on. Landed on a branch buried in the loam which whipped up in the air and turned my rear mech into spaghetti bolognaise with an almighty crack

Got to get that fixed tomorrow ready for our airtime course on Monday. Luckily Adrian from Pace Cycles thinks he’s got a spare Deore derailleur so meeting him at 10am tomorrow morning for a fix, hopefully, fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Cucamonga Canyon San Bernardino National Forest at the crossroads to Mount Baldy and Lytle Creek This week.

Very cool! My homeboy lives right up against the trails and introduced me to the area back in January. We rode almost to the point where we'd drop down into Calamity Canyon to the east, but we turned back and saved it for another day. If the mouth of the canyon is blocked, and have to go back the way we came, it could turn into an epic. Have you ever ridden over the ridge and made a loop out of it?

Here's a pic from about the same spot, but your lighting and white highlights make for a much better picture.

BHF Peak District ride yesterday. Beautiful place. Met some cracking people 👍

Said ‘Hi’ to everyone we met on the route; the only 2 people the whole day who didnt say hi back and just grr’d were 2 roadies 😀
I always carry a hefty stick for such occasions and have become quite adept at throwing it at their front wheel ..😁🤗

Yeah. Right.

If "Throwing a hefty stick at their front wheel" is code for moan about it later on the internet. maybe.
😂

I'd be in awe of a couple of roadies managing to ride up that Peak in the pic

22 miles today up Darwen Hill and Darwen Moor, over to Belmont, back again. 1500kCals, 3100ft of climbing...

Freezing cold but dry. Windy too.

They're still not done with the renovation of the 'space ship'...

Just after the climb back up from the Witton Weavers Way to Darwen Moor.

Dry across the Moor (thankfully!)

Rode up Cannell Plunge in Kernville, CA USA - Mix of Hike a Bike using "walk" mode and just lifting 50 pounds over rocks, and Boost mode and Trail mode.

Skylar and I made it to the top at just under 10 miles. We turned around and went back down the 4,600 foot pure DH descent. 20 miles of that type of riding is my limit. And Skylar's. We were D-U-N. Done.

Thing that happened today I can't stop thinking about. Burning about the woods, I took a wrong turn & ended up in a dead end bomb hole clearing with almost vertical sides, easily 20 ft high on all sides. almost like a natural amphiteatre. Going in, there was a bunch of old ladies on a walk coming out, the kind of thing we all encounter out riding. I stopped, they parted way to let me through, I say thank you & that's that.

The moment I pass by, they burst into song, knocking out a hymn in perfect harmony, like the sirens in O brother where art thou? this lovely choral sound deep in the woods. I've seen people hug trees in the woods, shoot each other with paint ball guns, even a couple going at it like tomcats but never singing. It was such a fleeting moment but very beautiful & if I didn't ride mountain bikes, I would never have seen it!

First-ever race this weekend. TommyKnocker10 in the Gila National Forest, just outside Silver City, NM, USA.

We came in last in our division (women’s team of 3-4), of course. But it was fun. And mind-boggling that some folks were able to complete 10 laps of the 13-mile race loop within the 10 hours of the race.

It was dry and dusty on race day (Saturday). But a friend and I got up this morning and rode the course again. This time taking a leisurely pace with stops for admiring the vistas and lots of pics. The big tree is the 2nd largest Alligator Juniper in the US.

Some of that terrain looks exactly like the stuff I used to ride in Central Australia, if I didn't know any different I would've thought it was my old riding grounds.
