Pic of the Day

No I'm on about the tool for turning a log after felling , we call it a cant hook .
Aaaahhhh! I see. Kinda like a peavey?
A cant hook moves lumber.(I think ?) A peavey moves larger logs. Both can save your back.

I’ve never had to turn or roll a log after I felled and bucked it. Sometimes they roll by themselves….which can be scary.

The Extreme Team was out today. We hit the most technical Black run in the National Park called "Bobcats". Then another black run called "Holy Trail" that has not been rebuilt since getting washed out. So it was particularly sketchy.

Loved every minute of it, and amazingly there were no falls or injuries.

You were doing big stuff though. We felled and cut off branches
(snedding )rolled it over and did underneath before cutting to length and stacking. Mostly processors I see now . Whether there are any hand cutting now I'm not sure. Maybe special areas they would use them and a horse but rarely.

Day 3 of a lost hiker on this mountain.
IMG_0793.jpeg
2 of 8 search vehicles.
IMG_0794.jpegIMG_0792.jpegIMG_0790.jpeg
Climbed up some less travelled trails and noticed some strange footprints. Found a white hoody. Sent pic and location to SARS.
Probably 24+ search crews up there along with a few helicopters overhead.

Nothing at all…so far. I know I call this a little mountain …but it’s not so little. A few times I’ve come across a lost hiker. But it’s hard to get lost on this mountain (for me anyway). Disoriented yes. However, if you wander 10’ off the trail …you can become lost. This incident seems like it could be a medical issue. There’s 4 directions you could go, and one is really bad.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how small or how big they are …they can still hurt. I accidentally cut a small yellow cedar limb hidden under the moss. Sprang up and almost ripped my face off. My hard hat, ear protection, safety glasses, radio, and myself, went flying backwards. My chest took the impact. Looked like a yard-sale.

Or maybe doesn't want to be found. Happens.
Nothing to do with E bikes .On the subject of not wanting to be found. I was on the Pelican a Dive boat. Just before I went on a lad joined and went missing. Big search effort for about 3 days then it was called off. A few days later someone in gym heard a scratching noise. Tore wall down here he was only banana skins left and the smell of shite he had slipped from his hiding place and broke a leg . Usual story when HR looked in to his CV he had a very murky past.

Last night on Burke Mountain, just down a bit from my house, a guy cleaning gutters touch a power line.

5 hour power outage. Guy didn’t make it.
Ironically that was the same spot that my son-in-law, while riding his EMTB, was almost hit by a bag of roof debris thrown from the roof.

How on earth did he manage to touch a power line from his gutter? Do they enter properties from overhead like a phone line?

Take 3..
What an epic ride that was !
We finally got to ride the route which consisted of about 25% of tracks never ridden by ourselves before ..quite amazing when you think that between the three riders who started this ride there is at least 75yrs of accumulated experience of riding in the Cheviot Hills ..albeit mainly on the English side of the border .
You may have noticed that I mentioned " started this ride" ..once again the bridleway ( the first section of off-road from Trows to Windy Gyle) claimed a victim ..this time Ant who's crank arm had come loose and been re-tightened a couple of times on the short road section to get to the alarmingly steep first climb where it quickly became apparent that it was going to cause ongoing problems ..so reluctantly we said our goodbyes and he headed back to the car ...
A really thick fog stayed with us until we climbed up to Windy Gyle and dropped down onto The Street and although a beautiful autumn day transpired for the remainder of the ride the amount or rain over the past week ensured that things remained "interesting" in terms of traction on wet & muddy grass which meant a more cautious approach on the very steep descent down Phillip Hope to the Heatherhope Resevoir ..on tracks never ridden before ( but given dry & dusty from a few weeks back ..what a flyer this would be )
There seemed to be tracks going off all over the place on this side of the border and the views were fantastic ..which makes further ( summer ) exploration a must .
After surviving our raid into tartanland we eventually climbed back up onto the Border Ridge and a familiar trail but the reinforced granite slabs which traverse the ridge for miles were covered in water and it was like riding a stream with the added excitement of not seeing the track ..get it wrong ( which I did a couple of times ) and you were over the bars and into stinking bog 💩..
The route itself was only 18 miles in total but ascent had to be close to 4,000ft ( my app stopped recording ..and Wayne left his phone in the the car ) ..coupled with the conditions meant that we were into the final bar of battery when we finished the ride ..but what a day that was ..Cheers Wayne for craic & pint & Ant ( briefly ) 👍🏻

Sad be a quick way to go or us it. Just watched a video of a tiger 🐅 dragging a man away. Stick to slow 🐌 Ebiking I think.

Couple of hikers in my way. I’ll give them a few minutes.

The only type of signage that survives.

Day 6 for missing hiker. 35+ search crews in the area. Search dogs, helicopters etc.

Nowhere near as good as our Swiss friend's pics Bill ..but thanks for the compliment ☺️.
That enclosure would be a sheep stell..quite common in these parts ..although little used these days ..
We were actually ( according to the map) sitting beneath a fort while having our sarnies where that pic was taken although I could see no evidence of it on the ground .
