I'm usually quite anal about checking my tyre pressures as I always lose a few psi between rides..so my go-to pressure is usually 24psi rear / 21 front ..
After yesterday's skittery ride at Kielder and having charged the bike while still in the car at home (using an extension cable ) with a view to riding again this morning ..I went into the ride " blind " at Edmundbyers having noted a comment from @Tyjay about his radial tyres running well ( these having more contact patch with the ground ) ...
My tyres aren't radial ( can't afford those prices !) ..but with less air thought it might be worth a try to see if it helped .
I've always though that at 13.5 stone anything less than I've been running would be risking a burp or two ..
I didn't check the pressures until I got back from the ride ..having felt so much more planted ( and amazed ) with how the tyres were tracking ..
19psi r / 17psi f ..knock me down with a feather 🪶 🤪
So 20r / 18 f ..( assuming at least 1 psi loss on both tyres while riding) for the foreseeable..or until I face plant 😉
Not quite as sunny or hot today but really pleasant conditions to ride in ..and the ground conditions as dry as I've known on this trail ..

First gravel bike I've seen on this track ( don't know who they are but we chewed the fat for a few mins )

A Newcastle United win this afternoon against Arsenal would round off a very enjoyable weekend 😀

That looks like A great trail might have to look that up

I used to run as low as 13 psi in my Maxxis Assegia was too low at times but grip was insane for where we ride loamy natural stuff. Not much use on trail center hard pack

but the magic Mary radial is something else tbh running that at 22psi feels like 18 psi insane grip on rock and loam. Little bit sketchy on hard pack but gradually adjusting to it

Never though a tyre would be so much confidence inspiring when riding one of the best upgrades Iv done
Was considering the radial Albert as the tread is similar to the Assegia but was reliable informed that the MM trail was the one to go for and they were correct

I’ll change to Albert rear once my DH2 R is done although that is an awesome tyre running at 24psi

was going to glentress tomorrow but think kielder might be in order as it’s a bit closer to give new Setup a test

Nope you got Strava or gpx route
Saved as a " hiking route !" ..
The road section from Baybridge is a pain in the arse ..as its a slog of a climb until you turn onto the singletrack to climb up to Bolts Law itself ..but once you get to the top the descent back to Edmundbyers ( apart from a bit of a road climb ) will put a smile on your face 😁

added to the list of things todo

My early sunday ride went on my neighbours' different tractor roads up into the forest towards the mountains. A loop of 28km, and less than 1 km on paved road, the rest on gravel and dirt. A nice couple of hours before breakfast with my wife and a 8km hike with her later in the day. Then, coffe & cakes with three grandsons and their parents in the evening! A sunday well spent.

Ferry from Mallaig to inverie in Knoydart then a 20 mile loop . Long way to go for a cycle really. No wind and the Midge is back I'm afraid.

Did that trip back in 2016(?) and stayed on the peninsula for 3 nights ..we hired a local boat ( Callana) to take us back over Loch Nevis to Tarbet ..where we rode along the shore of Loch Morar back to the Morar Hotel who had given us permission to park our cars there at the beginning of our trip ..from where we had cycled into Mallaig to catch the ferry ..
I remember riding some great singletrack there & back routes (and the track along Loch Morar was excellent) ..and a vibrant nightlife in The Old Forge which had a bit of a reputation for great food at the time ( but we didn't think it was all that clever) ..
Great memories & a fantastic trip...where we nearly joined a hen party group who invited us to go back with them to Skye on their " water taxi "..having had a good laugh with them in the pub 😀 .
Ended the trip visiting the missus who was on a girlie camping trip at Arisaig with all the offspring ..before heading home for a few days peace & quiet

Yes Inverie heaving very hot had to shut blind in Forge blinding sun. Starter brilliant just waiting for main. Loch Morar something else I thought I know the cycle you mean.

The midgies were horrendous this morning and that was inside the bunkhouse. It could only get worse lips and nostril swollen , so the £13 natural spray like all the others dont work for me..:😫 . My midge face net was at home ,they do actually work so i need to have a better list when i go away . Out of hut by 7am intended cycling to Barrisdale got about a k away from the high pass Mam Barrisdale but the midge had removed my motivation scratch scratch say no more . Got the 11 ferry back to Mallaig instead of 6.30 then stopped at Laggan Wolftrax on the way home for a spin.

Up in the Cheviot Hills with my marra @The Hodge. Fantastic weather, the trails were running fast and very very dry.
First ride since the Old Folks outing in Ballater where I knacked my left shoulder…..all feels ok IMG_0030.jpegIMG_0031.jpegIMG_0032.jpegIMG_0033.jpegIMG_0034.jpegIMG_0035.jpegIMG_0037.jpegIMG_0038.jpegIMG_0039.jpegIMG_0040.jpeg

A grand day out and thanks for the liquid refreshment 👌

Just a quick mention on a pic that Wayne posted ..
It might look as though the work going on behind me is to renew the poles carrying electricity to the farms & homes in Upper Coquetdale ...but that's not the case..
In the year 2025 this is the first time they will have had " mains" electricity having existed so far on diesel generators .
The work is still ongoing ..but you can't help but to be happy for these folks as it will make a huge difference to their lives ..
