Pic of the Day

1st June, it is summer. The day it didn't rain, tomorrow it will be again. Great single track on pine barrens terrain.

My good lady declared today a baking day so as not to get in the way I took to the hills so I wouldn’t get in the way.
Usual place, The Cheviot Hills above Alwinton, North Northumberland. Had a great ride, was very wet underfoot in places also got caught in a couple of heavy showers.
Rode the singletrack from the now closed house at Fairhaugh

Continuing from my last mistake 🥴 along the Usway burn, tricky single track with an off-camber drop in, roots, rocks and very narrow in places. It eventually runs to a 2X fire type road to Shillmoor farm. If there is a better burn to navigate I’ve yet to find it. 76012304-08CD-412B-B312-E3F149D65DB5.jpeg9FE63F2B-2DB1-44C9-99A9-D615EEB80D2F.jpeg965D67CA-661D-4C45-A9AA-DA88FFDE63E7.jpeg03A134E8-57F5-4747-B0AA-5A9E50A2F541.jpeg

A pic from the English side of the border ridge heading up to Russell’s Cairn it’s a lot steeper than it looks

and a couple of pics of the decent into Trows, 2 mile of fast undulating smooth grass with the occasional bog crossing to negotiate……once you’re away you have to be soooooo careful on the brakes.

I know pal, it was a spur of the moment ride.. you’ve got get your injuries sorted properly and give them time…..as for the bike you know I’ve a complete spare wheel and chain just to drop in……just say the word.
catch up soon Neil.

I assume you carry bear spray on the regular?!
I’m not sure it would help but I don’t carry any spray. Bear spray may be a good deterrent.…but if a bear was charging, I don’t think an enraged bear would care. I actually rode between these two, by accident, and they didn’t care. I turned around for several pics before I rode down a trail. Looked like they we busy eating. Now mating season is a whole different story.

Not sure I'd be so ridey if the trails were peppered with bears! One of my pals lives in Calgary & reckons it's fine provided you don't get in between momma bear & the kids or look too much like a pork chop on wheels. Either way, I'll probably skip The Revenant for family movie night.

A good descent from the Cleveland Way into Kepwith village, the Rhododendron bushes were stunning and even more densely packed further down this gully, which, was covered in old dried out branches, it was like riding over some kind of bone graveyard?!

Nice example of dry stone wall.

The singletrack to and from Snilesworth is a fun techy section.

The drop into Thorodale (look on OS maps) is a great test of nerves, brake control, chamois absorption and concentration, it fully drained my talent pool (a mere splash at the best of times!) but is definitely worth riding for a full on thrill.

Didn’t take many photos so just grabbed a screenshot from the GoPro
