Have Ford gone and built the perfect van for MTB? 4 X 4 option, and available in all the usual body styles:

Is the " connect" electric?

"he range of Active vehicles will be further expanded later in 2020, with the introduction of the smaller Transit Connect Active and Tourneo Connect Active models. More details will be provided closer to launch."

The connect is the smaller transit van. There might be an electric version of it though I guess.

They do a mild hybrid version of the stock van, might be available on the Active/trail versions but the Ford website is rubbish

Great concept but it needs more work.
should have big off-road tyres like Goodrich all terrain. And a poptop roof so you can kip upstairs and stand up inside the van.

I think it's only the big transits that are 4x4, the Transit Customs might have a quaife LSD and possibly 180 hp need more digging don't know if they've sorted the injector issues yet

Basic Trail with the 130 ps engine £30,000 plus the VAT, spec one up and you're looking at £50,000 with the VAT.

Awaiting something full electric with utility/space and able to tow decent weights. Rivian R1T anyone?
If you really want usable space you need a van. I'm surprised there's not more. The layout of a van is perfect.

I wondered if weight was the limiting factor, but my sprinters about 2500kg and a model X is a lardy lump and about the same weight, so you should have the same load capacity.

I also wondered down the line if trailers would have small wheel motors to act as brakes/recharge , but you'd also then have 8x8 in the mud/snow if you needed it.

Hmm, so who would win, in the red corner, a Rivian R1T and in the blue corner a Nikola Badger.....FIGHT!
Badger, what a rubbish name, I would have preferred Growler but I think that might be taken

Nissan do the Voltia van but it’s squarely positioned for commercial at the moment.

Waiting to also see how the VW ID Buzz looks/costs.

As most do, need the one vehicle to do it all!

You would have thought that vans were the perfect format (as @Zimmerframe has already said :giggle:) for a long range electric vehicle, large flat load area for the batteries etc.

Mine has a payload of about 950kg which is far more than I need so losing 400 kg or so wouldn't bother me. The Tesla 85kWh battery setup weighs about 540kg apparently...

Unfortunately you're correct, I expect the custom LSD is something similar to Peugeot's grip control...

In my experience just fitting the right tyres can make a huge difference to off road performance on a van, for the situations most of us will get in too.

I do think that brands take the piss with "lifestyle" vans, the price they charge for those is crazy - I nearly bought a new Vito recently, was nearly 40k but was fully loaded with every possible option, but backed out a I just though crazy to spend that level of money on a van. On the second hand market I have seen so many where the mods have been done badly, where the can might look great but beneath the surface it been fecked up.

For an extra £10k you could ask @Zimmerframe to order a brand new FMB for your weekend recreational activities!

Absolutely. But there’d be no point buying it if it means you don’t have a bike to put in it...

For the cost of that van you could buy a BMW M140i, a 2012ish Vito with full leather and a 224hp V6 and an SL Founders Editition and still have enough left over to head to the alps several times.

On the bright side, you could get that other pikey favourite the Ford Ranger in the same shade of orange for matching nobbishness.

What's a pikey and should I be offended?

The fictionary tells me it's " traveller " , although if I spell it correctly there are undertones of thieving Irish soldiers carrying long poles
