Markhor Kunlun M510 - 190mm - Super Enduro Build-Log

Is it possible to fit a 14s4p or 15s4p 21700 DIY battery into the Kun Lun? Could you measure the battery compartment? Please also measure the dimensions of the lid at the front. It's such a shame they can't supply the Rocket frame with UDH.

Das verstehe ich. Aber wie viel Platz ist im Rahmen? Ja, und Bafang-Akkus haben immer 12-13 Ah. Keine 14- oder 15-Ah-Konfiguration. Ich hätte gerne mindestens 20-25 Ah. Was nützt ein starker Motor, wenn auf halber Strecke der Sprit ausgeht und man im Eco-Modus fahren muss.
 
it just fits the original battery, not much space for anything bigger

if you want 20-25ah look at the dengfu e82

this markhor is better with less powerfull motor m510 and a eco tune

i do weekly 50-80km rides on this
if you want more get a bigger battery

also the kunlun v2 comes with 890wh and i hope it fits the v1 frame as well but we have to wait and see
 
What is the difference between kunlun and kunlun v2 other than the battery? They posted pictures on Facebook but those do not say much

All my bike are 29ER . even my Nukeproof Giga 295 (Bike of the year in Mullet setup) , i swap my swing arm to full 29ER cause mullet its not suitable for my local trail but my KUN LUN its mullet now n i am very satisfy with it. I dont think i will change it to FULL 29.
 
I contacted the Marchor USA dealer ( Freewheel Bike Shop) about the Kunlun V2 bare frame without motor and battery. Will see what the price is. The hope is to save significant money on motor and battery and I also have a couple of 29" wheels laying around. The plan is to build a custom battery and install the Luna Ludicrous V2 controller with M600 motor on this frame. That should be sick.

I didn’t even know they were still making those things. Although with the release of the 750W M560 it already has way more power than I need, peaking at just over 1200W.

Yeah. From my experience if you want more power from mid drive you are begging to break your drivetrain components.

My friend has two different bikes with 3,5kw and 5kw hub motors. If that power was on mid motors I know they would just break everything. The 5kw motor burns rear wheel from 40kmh speed easily..

Yeah, anything over 1Kw is no longer something you’re actually using for any meaningful exercise or represents a pedal bike and gets into the territory of an electric dirt bike with pedals. I get they might be fun, but it’s an entirely different activity at that point, and is the sort of stuff that gets e-bikes banned from trails.
 
Placed a deposit on Markhor Kunlun V2. Unfortunately they do not sell the frame without motor and battery with electronics. Well, I guess I will have an extra motor and battery. Maybe I can try to fit the VESC for Bafang m600 controller into that M560 motor (I might need to redesign or reshape the PCB though).

Would that special controller even be compatible with the Bafang CAN based display that fits in the top tube?

The top tube display is Bafang canbus display, so It should be compatible. Bafang canbus display turns the system ON and OFF, reads speed and battery level, commands the support level, shows the consuming power. The controller adjustments like maximum power level, voltages, throttle curves can only be adjusted through the phone with Bluetooth with VESC application though.
 
Just make sure it is compatible before you purchase one. I bought one to use with my M600
And it wasn’t compatible
Provide them with all the info from your motor to confirm 👍
If you still want one I can do one for 120 NZ dollars
 
Anyone disassembled the Markhor Bafang battery and took some pictures of what is going on inside? It looks like the battery management system is set to 25 Amperes maximum which is only 1200W at 48V. I am wondering if it will be enough just to replace the BMS and power delivery wires for higher amperage and the batteries series connections are thick enough. I hope to squeeze at least 60A out of the battery and maybe add an additional group of cells for 14S 52V.

I am obtaining 840 Wh 48V battery which is likely 3 cells parallel. 3 cells parallel is probably too little for 60A but maybe it will be OK.

Depending on the cells it appears that the setup could produce 7.5 Ah and 360 Watt hours

For 18650 cells, the nominal voltage of a single cell is 3.7 to 4.2volts. Therefore, a 13S (13 in series) configuration produces a total voltage of approximately 48 volts. The capacity depends on the individual cells used. For example, if each 18650 cell has a capacity of 2500 mAh, the total capacity of a 13S3P (12 in series / 3 groups in parallel) battery pack would be 3 times 2500 or 7500 mAh.

I edited the math to correct the rated voltage from 4 v per cell to 3.7 volts (storage voltage) I also had a math mistake converting to Ah that I corrected, I am learning as I go :)

48V battery is actually 13S battery, not 12S. That voltage indicated on the battery (48V) is what they call nominal voltage and it is calculated based on nominal cell voltage which is 3.7V, not 4.2V and not anything between 4.2V and 3.7V. 3.7V is nominal voltage per cell and it is used as an industry standard for calculating and marking the lithium batteries voltages even the actual nominal voltage can be slightly different for different lithium cells (It is not fully charged cell voltage, it is around the voltage at which the cell stays most of the time during discharge. 4.2V is about fully charged lithium cell voltage, but the cell stays at such voltage quite short period of time and then it quickly drops closer to 3.7V after you start to discharge it). 48V/3.7V=13

The Markhor Kunlun V1 battery uses 21700 cells, and total capacity of that battery is 15ah (720 Wh at 48V). So it looks like Markhor Kunlun V1 battery uses about 3800 mAh cells (15ah/(13*3)) . The Markhor Kunlun V2 battery total capacity is 17.5ah (840 Wh at 48V). So it looks like Markhor Kunlun V2 battery uses about 4500 mAh cells (17.5ah/(13*3)). As I understand The Markhor Kunlun V2 uses 21700 cells too in exactly the same battery case, just different model with higher capacity.

I ran a few numbers and it looks like the V1 battery could be a 13s/4p setup. 13 times 3.7 volts for 48 volts , and 4 times 3.8 amps for 15.2 amps total, with a wattage of 48 times 15.2 equaling 729 Wh
 
The VESC M600 controller has been installed. Still waiting the frame.

Does anyone know if the frame in the controller area is wider than the motor? The ribs pattern on the VESC M600 controller is different and I am afraid it will interfere with the frame. It is hard to tell looking on the pictures if the motor in that area in narrower than the frame or not

I also noticed they relocated the charging port on V2. I like it better - looks cleaner and protected from water ingress

I tried a regular CANBUS display for Bafang motors and it works. I do not know if the Kunlun display will work. The Markhor US dealer said there is special firmware for Kunlun (and this is why Markhor does not sell the Kunlun frame without the electronics). Will see if it will work.
