Should there be a threaded cap of some sort on the circled side of the chainstay pivot? The opposite side says torque to 7Nm but what does it screw in to. I think I might have a threaded cap gone walkies whilst out riding.

Hi Cleggy,

the screw (7Nm) is just used to secure the axle and is screwed into the axle. Its purpose is to slightly expand the head of the axle (with the help of the small cone shaped washer) to make sure the axle doesn't start rotating when the suspension is active. The axle bolt itself is torqued with 25Nm into (probably) some sort of insert in the chainstay (your red circle). From the outside it is covered by the chain guide so I am pretty confident that there is nothing missing. When there is some piece missing you will see the chainstay wobble around. Quite some time ago the 7Nm screw was loose on my bike and the axle had started to move outwards. Even though it was still in place you could see the rear triangle moving when I pressed sideways against the rea main pivot.

Cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom, so this is a pic of the red circled side post-ride, pre-wash.

All ok?

Still looks weird to me like its threaded and nothing threaded in to the "gap"

You are right, this looks a bit odd. But it seems to me as if there is some kind of thread in the inner silver surface.
Can you still torque the axle (with the 7Nm screw and the conical washer removed)?

I'm ~190lbs kitted up and am curious how other riders my weight have tuned their 38s. For instance, how many fork tokens, psi, rebound, etc. Running my e2 as full 29er, for what it's worth.

Hey all? Been poking around this thread. Any Consensus on the Alpine Trail E2 Bosch? Comparisons to a Levo Alloy or any other budget emtb’s? Mostly curious about riding characteristics on the down and any issues with that big downtube and clearance on chunky terrain?

Thanks!

Has anyone had a problem with the battery release mechanism?
I went for a ride yesterday now I can’t get the 4mm Allen key to catch on the release.

Mines always had issues from day one. Does take a bit of fishing around in the hole to catch it for me.

Yeah I’ve had the bike for 6 years - it’s not the fishing around issue - the Allen wrench isn’t biting at all

It doesn't engage with the ball end wera Allen keys I have. I have a specific basic key that I use

Has anyone changed out the frame bearings on an alpine trail ?
I’ve had the bike for several years and there’s a lot of side to side play then I move the rear wheel lateral.
Is it a difficult job ?
I can simple things like dropper service, brake bleeds, drivetrain etc.

The rear end is very flexi regardless of bearing wear or not.

To answer your question I have only ever replaced the main rocker bearings
