I didn't think we'd be waiting this long ... :eek::D

It's time for Spesh to shake things up a bit again with the Gen4 ..

175mm q-factor.

52v.

M40 is full power version, M20 detuned version for none EMTB's.

SRAM 160mm cranks.

More seriously ! I wonder if the 'new' full power Mahle motor, IF IT EXIST, will be as inovative, as what has been anounced for car.
Imagine a Spesh EMTB with a robust and durable motor ... wabagadoowaaaa !

to be fair, i could appreciate a Bullit / Heckler with a full fat mahle motor too

• Peak power: 850W
• Torque: 105Nm
• Weight: 2.5kg/5.5lbs.
• Maximum Support: 400%
• Battery Capacity: 534Wh, 800Wh

Looks interesting. Is this perhaps what they were working on for the Levo 4 before Specialized decided to go with their own design (Brose manufactured)? Looking at the Mahle motor and battery I think the the Levo 4 would have been considerably slimmer had they gone this route.

one of the M40 bikes
i'm liking it , just not the price and no doubt the weight , but it's a beast

Im just glad to hear the proper pronunciation of the brand name, way back when we pronounced it “maul” when we were getting pistons for our Maico 400s or cylinder kits for our beetles. But I am in Indiana….

In Mahle web page it seems that there are 4 bikes mounting this motor. If you go to the bike description page of the vendors 2 of them seem to be mounting Shimano. Could it be that this motor is compatible for bikes having Shimano ? That would be good news for Shimano out of warranty owners.

I doubt it. While some of the manufactures planning to adopt the new Mahle might have current Shimano based models I would imagine they will develop new models specifically for the new motor.

It really does seem that it's a new frontier out there in eBike land.
Bosch and Shimano no longer ruling the roost, so to speak (but at least Bosch have come to the party with updates).

I agree with Shimano but Bosch still have a massive share of the market and nearly all the big brands have moved over to them with the gen 5. I don't see Mahle or anyone except maybe DJI threatening to pull business from them.

With the bar raised for motor size, weight and power by Avinox and the subsequent upgrade by Bosch to raise power and efficiency I believe that the Teutonic approach to innovation and quality will unquestionably be able to meet or exceed the current "state of the art".

Thanks to a comment earlier in the thread, I am having a deja vu :) "way back when we pronounced it “maul” when we were getting pistons for our Maico 400s or cylinder kits for our beetles"

motor specs are not all, imho software gets more and more important, and that is something bosch has not shown great progress or speed of implementation. that mahle screen doesn't look much better either yet

Or is it Germany in general regarding the digital transition. Do I understand that they still use typewriters "smile" I did notice that they are giving manufactures the ability to personalize the software for their own brand and identity. I wonder if that will spur innovation.

I would not trust a review/promotion where they put a special effort into canceling motor noise completely out of POV footage and not commenting about how silent/noisy is the motor at all. My conclusion will be this motor must be loud AF.

I really hope they move fast (release of bikes, etc) because i fear 2027 to be a 'game of massacre' by the next avinox bomb innovation. (no fan service inside, just a sincere hope for true brands competition, more options for riders, better prices)
