Those who upgraded at the dealer, please share your thoughts. Some say the new firmware has limited maximum power. Is this true?

Do Specialized publish release notes for their firmware updates anywhere?

I havent noticed any limited max power. seems it is changelog ROTWILD Software Updates
but as I recall few years back there was official specialized page with updates, when an old app was available

I bought my Gen 3 in 2023, and I have not updated it once. I live in Japan, and Levo is not sold here and I cannot update it in Japan. So I've never updated it.

Do Specialized not sell any ebikes at all in Japan? I see Levo SLs and city bikes listed on Specialized's Japanese site. If dealer's sell these then they should have access to Turbo Studio.

No, Japan does not sell the Levo, or the Kenevo. Also, you cannot update the firmware for those bikes in Japan. You're right, Japan only sells the Levo SL.

I know some guys offer remote firmware update

I've recently been updated from 8.1.5 to 8.6.0 and there is no noticeable difference, except maybe its a bit more responsive off the line.

See this related post for more info on the 'change log'

Updated from 8.1.5 to 8.6 (via remote access). I didn't notice any major changes. Walk mode seemed a bit better. Jump statistics were added, along with the ability to charge the battery to 80%.

update: the motor power doesn't seem to have changed, walk mode is still sucks (EP801 has better Walk mode)
So, in my opinion, the update is completely unnecessary.

Without release notes it's really hard to say if an update necessary or not. Could be the case that there were fixes for issues that only affect certain bikes.

Does 8.5.0 mean I have the second newest firmware? Bike is from 2022/23.

My only complaint would be that walkmode sometimes is very slow and that specialized got rid of a lot of functions of the mission control app.

So do we reckon Specialized are done bringing anything new via OS updates to the gen 3?

Would be nice if they gave us dynamic micro tune and control over overrun as on the gen 4.

They seem to have totally dropped the ball compared to the mission control days or what Avinox is doing. No more OTA updates, you can't even check your firmware status with the official app. It's almost like the people in charge want to loose market share to avinox.

That happens if company stop listening to the customers but is sure to know what customer needs are, so loosing the link. This can be seen not only with the new app but also just looking on Gen 4
