If you were in the market for a used Emtb, what would your preference be and what would you avoid?

I’m possibly in the market for something and our cycle 2 work limit restricts what I can get massively so I’m looking at used. Is there much out there that’s serviceable in any way?

What kind of prices are you looking at for batteries and motors for example on something like a Levo?

Check if local bike shops will allow you to top up the c2w voucher. Mine did so I got the saving from the scheme and the bike I really wanted.

This is based upon my summation of the general advice on the Forum. Go for any bike you like the look of that has a Bosch motor. The reason is that the Bosch motor is repairable. Personally, I have never had a problem with Shimano motors (and I love the natural feel), but they are not repairable and Shimano's warranty service appears to be spotty at best.

Looks like our cycle to work place have added Trek Powerfly hardtails since I last looked. Now discounted to be available on the scheme.
I may take a look at one of these with the view to swapping over the 120mm SID Ultimate forks, Zee brakes and X01 AXS group set and dropper off my Solaris which I no longer use much.
Might make for a halfway decent hardtail e-bike.

I recently upgraded my fork to the current 120mm Pike, they were on sale %48 off! The new pike can also be pushed to a 140MM air spring to add travel and future-proof the fork. I had my heart set on the 120mm SID ultimate but the reviews are not outstanding. Apart from the weight, the new Pike outperforms the SID in rigidity and small bump compliance. Just my thoughts.

I would have bought a Lefty Ocho if I had the funds and I didn't sometimes leave my bike chained to a pole in an alleyway somewhere in London for the night on the odd occasion...

I went the other way, from the Pike to the SID and much prefer the SID.
The Pike was good in that you could change travel if required but 120mm suits my riding.

I would agree with a bosch bike as above, Trek give the 2nd owner 3 years warranty on the frame as well. Some other manufacturers probably do too. Had my Rail frame replaced as the 2nd owner with no problems.

Specialized will transfer the warranty to new owners so maybe look for one that is still under 2 years old. Once the warranty runs out they have a sliding price scale for new motors so you wont be on the hook for the full cost.
My dealer also told me that if you are outside warranty they don't make you send the old motor back. IF that is true, then in many ways I wish I had bought second hand as I could have got a new motor AND kept the old one to fix myself and have a spare ready to switch in (assuming I could fix it).

I recommend you make a written agreement with the seller if the bikes warranty is not transferable and needs warranty work they will submit the claim therefore making the warranty good. I did it and after 2 yrs. I problems. Oh I recommend a Giant you’ll get a good deal because they are lass expensive to start with better speced that other comparable brands and IMO it’s an excellent value.
