How to remove chain ring on Yamaha?

To release you should rotate the lock ring clockwise but you have nothing to hold against. How should this work? Chain wip?

put the chain back on and hold the crank on the other side to stop it from moving or hold the back wheel

no need to put the wheel or chain back on or use a chain whip just put something thru chain ring and under motor to lock it in place while you break the nut free.
