• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Hi all.

I'm UK based, ride a Scott Aspect eRide 920 (2024), which runs with a Bosch Performance Line CX (Model BDU3740). I've received the latest Performance 2.0 update from Bosch and installed it. The motor is compatible, but because Scott haven't "signed off the upgrade" due to conformity reasons, it won't complete. Gutted as I'm sick to death of doing 15.5mph everywhere. I'm 58 by the way, so not balaclavered up wanting to hare around shopping centres, but just want another 5-10mph to make it less painful on distances.

Apologies if the question's been asked 8000 times already, but does anyone on here know of a work around for the update, or an alternative to get more power and speed out of my motor. Would of course be for off road usage only and understand that it would invalidate any warranty etc etc ;-)

Many thanks in advnace

The update doesnt increase the max speed. Just the torque and assitance level.
If you want a higher max speed just google 'bosch gen 5 max speed increase'. Plenty of options available

Ah right I did wonder whether that would be the case! Many thanks for coming back so quickly, much appreciated.

Not sure what you've heard about the Performance 2.0 Upgrade but ebikes are limited to 15.5mph in the UK because it's a law, not a motor manufacturer/update decision.

Even if you found a way of running 2x 800wh batteries and Bosch released a 300nm 1500w peak power update you'd still lose all motor assistance after 15.5mph and no motor manufacturer, bosch, yamaha, shimano, avinox etc will release an update that lets you have assistance after that speed because they're only allowed to sell their bikes here by complying with the laws and regulations.

If you have an avinox powered bike I've heard some stuff you can do with vpn to make the bike think it's in China for example for unrestricted riding, otherwise you'll have to do whatever else does and install a speedchip or similiar to get assistance up to 20-25mph or whatever it is now.

But then you'll be voiding warranty, bikeshops might refuse to work on your bike, if the popo spring on you and want to test your bike and find it's getting assistance past 15.5mph they're allowed to take it off you and crush it.

That said, Speedfun, Volspeed etc. Take your pick and install it. I'd avoid connecting your bike to the bosch app after install though/trying to install any future updates, bosch have been known to detect you've bypassed restrictions and brick stuff

I have the same motor and im running the bikespeed rs custom speedchip.
Its actually a good design. It runs unlimited speedand when it senses that the motor will trow an error code it restrict the motor on 32-33km/h untill its safe again to run full speed.
Ive had this happen a few times now and no error codes yet.
I have restricted the bosch app from any internet connection though.

Also police won't catch it because its allways off when I turn on the bike and it can only be activated by my special made key combination

The problem with the Volspeed is that it does not fit every bicycle frame and that may be a problem. The Speedbox is a good solution but both the Speedbox and the Volspeed share the same weakness as both devices are prone to FW udpates and thus they may be disabled when the manufacturer release a FW update. On the other hand, the EPAspeed: https://ebikespartsandaccessories.c...roducts/epaspeed-1-3-b-tuning-for-bosch-bdu37 has been engineered to be FW update resistant and thus less prone to any manufacturer FW update. The EPAspeed like the Speedbox offers bluetooth connectivity and thus it offers several features that other conventional tuning does not offer or offer at higher prices..

apparently(just from what i've been told through a couple of Bike shops) It's coming to markets with more open speed, such as New zealand.
Some Were talking with the overboost function(adjustable) & tensioner within the next month.
