Has anyone here run a SPEEDi / PLANET3 style mechanical derestrictor on a newer Giant SyncDrive Sport 2 bike with RideControl Dash?

I’ve got a 2026 Giant Talon E+ and I’m trying to understand the real-world risk before doing anything. I’ve read comments saying the newer SyncDrive systems may compare rear wheel speed against internal motor/cadence data and can potentially throw plausibility errors (6A etc).

I’m specifically interested in:

• long-term reliability
• whether anyone has had sensor/plausibility errors
• whether newer firmware versions are more sensitive
• whether the RideControl system logs faults
• and whether anyone has had persistent lockouts or dealer reset issues

Not really interested in “it worked for one ride” — more looking for people with hundreds/thousands of km on a tuned SyncDrive Sport 2.

Would especially appreciate feedback from anyone using a mechanical solution rather than SpeedBox/VOLspeed.

Ive recently bought the talon e+ 2026 and a spare wheel set with a speedi fitted (Giant eTracker Grooved ED260R 6bolt)

I commute 10.5 miles each way to work so about 21 miles per day. I did a full week with the speedi wheels fitted and it was faultless. I am concerned about the battery use though. Without the speedi, my commute to work (steady uphill gradient) used about 38% battery, and my return used about 25% (im about 95kg and have panniers fitted etc).

With the speedi wheels (with schwalbe mtb marathon low rolling resistance tyres, in auto it absolutely rips through the battery and because its assisting most of the time, it uses similar battery on the way home too, which was a surprise). Ive gotten home with 5% battery, and also ran out of battery 10 meteres away from my driveway entrance one day. The wind is king and will only be using the speedi wheels when its favourable or at least not detrimental. In low wind conditions ive got back with 15% battery remaining.

That said, when wind isnt a consideration it turns a 40min ride to work into a 35min ride to work, and a 37min ride home to a 30min ride home. Its mostly roads but there about 1 mile of rough farm tarmac and 2 miles of gravel.

So basically ive done about 150 miles on the speedi wheels (out of the 1000 miles ive done on it so far), and not had any issues with errors. I believe all those miles were on the latest firmware.
