Flying with BA

Hey guys,
Apologies if already answered - can't seem to find
I'm flying with BA to Cape Town next week, and wondering whether anyone has flown with their ebike with BA. Website says non motorized bikes only. I'll of course remove the battery, just wondering if anyones had any issues? Flying with a levo

You should be able to fly without the battery. Would pay to call them.

If you fly without the battery, what then do you do about a battery ?

I'm picking one up at Specialized in Stellenbosch when I arrive.

I flew to Geneva without a battery without any problems. Although coming home I was asked if it was an ebike by the airline, and obviously I said no!
Without the battery it's just a heavy bike so don't worry. It's the security that might kick up a fuss, but nothing nasty is going to show up on the x-ray.

Bike without battery is okay, carrying the battery in any form (cabin hand luggage, on ones person, or in the hold) is not allowed (airline worker). Don't try and get it through security - it's not allowed for a reason.

I have taken my Levo to the Alps w/o battery on a number of occasions ( leave battery out there) on a plane using BA.
BA have a specialist dept that can tell you about what you can & cannot take. I normally carry a few emergency gas tyre inflation canisters with me. They are supposed to be prohibited. But the very helpful BA guy said it was perfectly ok to carry them and made a note on my booking locator ref for the airport check-in staff saying they were cleared by BA security dept. No problem on outbound (ex LHR), not so straightforward on return leg with Swiss security. Eventually Swiss relented when same BA guy told them “ why do we bother putting notes against passenger reference saying ok to carry them on OUR plane/ flight, if you dont read them! “

No Li-on batteries bigger than small spare (ie for phone type) power pack allowed anywhere on board.

I would try and get it in writing that all is well. I've had wrong info from airlines before. But I was told this or that doesn't always work.
