Finally got my Rail 5 Deore 625W, advice/recommendations please...

So I finally got the Rail 5 (1st ebike). Only extras added are pedals (Shimano Pd-Gr500 ), and Lezyne front light , plus some basic mudguards (Fender Bontrager Enduro front and Muc-Off Rear Ride Guard)
Initial impressions are great, but I'd expect that would be the case with first ebike.
I'd like to get your opinions on what essential additions I should get, plus thoughts on the following:

1. First big ride was wet and muddy. Bike and me got covered. The flimsy mudguards didnt seem up to the job.
Any recommendations on mudguards?
Do you think an aftermarket bash guard is a good idea? I'm tempted by the protect-emtb.com bash guard...

2. New saddles are always a pain. Any recommendations on saddles for a couple of 25mile rides (road,trail,rocks, big hills) per week. (Dorset purbeck area).

3. I would have thought that a new bike would come with latest firmware, so is the Eco>Tour>eMTB>Turbo display on the purion the latest (eg is "Tour" actually "Tour+" ? )

4. I reckon I'll need insurance. I'm looking at laka.co and sundaysinsurance.co.uk but if you have any advice/experience I'd appreciate it.

5. On same vain, what locks for ebike are recommended for taking on the ride? My garage security is undergoing upgrades.

6. Any other advice greatly appreciated, essentials to add to the bag while riding, etc. Its a lot to take in but I'm loving it.

3. Tour on the display should be Tour+

4. My bikes are listed as valuable items on my Lloyds home insurance. New for old inc accidental damage cost me an extra 20ish quid a year.

5. I never leave my bike unattended.

Congratulations on the new bike. Mine's a different bike but I think the recommendations are valid :

1. I've got an RRP ProGuard on the front which works really well and a Mucky Nutz Long on the back but I'm not so impressed with that one, I still get a very muddy back
2. The saddle on mine was pretty good but I did swap the one off my old acoustic bike as it had been fitted for me
3. My purion says Tour even though it's been upgraded to Tour+. I've since had the Bosch Nyon fitted and it says Tour too.
4. I've got specialised bike insurance but that's because I'm in a bit of an odd domestic situation at the moment. It's expensive and the list of exclusions is huge. If you can get a decent coverage on the house insurance get that.
5. I've got a Abus Granit XPlus 540 lock. I don't generally leave the bike unattended but I use the bike as transport to get to a few things such as evening classes. The bike is inside but is in a different room so I use that lock to secure the bike to the building. It's one of the best and one of the few that the insurance will pay out on.

Hello, I would carry a spare mech hanger and a spare chain, small 1st aid kit and I also use and carry park tool tl5 x2, they don't break. Also I have recently fitted the ergon ebike saddle, which is good. Great bike you have there, ideal for upgrading as you wear parts out. All the best.

Hi Ben,

I use mud hugger shorty on front and mud hugger standard on rear inverted and cut back. I then have designed and produced a pivot protection flap which stops debris getting caught up in pivot link area on muddy and dusty runs... see pics - availablenon ebay £7.50... Protect the rear pivot link area. Whether you use a rear mud guard or a small home-made flap thingy, keep the rocks, sticks or mud debris out of this area.
Besides the great suggestions and the upgradability of your eMTB, a first aid kit could be useful.
