Hi peeps , I had the unfortunate experience of a branch whacking me in the eye the other week which was sore but not really an issue . It hadn’t got better and I started seeing loads of floaters so went to the eye clinic this morning and I have a detached retina, only the top left which is why the symptoms weren’t that bad BUT I still need an op asap !
Has anyone had this done as any advice would be grateful 🤪

Whoa…I feel your pain.
Similar here several years ago. Small branch across my eye. Hurt like hell and took a couple of weeks to completely heal. Not a detached retina though …ah man!

I always wear riding glasses now. Sometimes tinted but most of them are clear (3). Sounds like you may have got lucky also. 🙏

I usually ride with a Doctor who doesn’t wear any eye protection …ever😳🤷🏼‍♂️

I was walking down the high street when I started seeing flashes, then tiny black flies floating around my head that had me waving them away. I went straight to the optician, only about 100 yards away. He saw me straight away and after using some high-tech looking gear told me that my retina was detaching! Had I had any knocks to the head recently (err, yes!). He also told me that the black flies were bits of retina floating about in the eyeball casting shadows on the retina. They are called "floaters". He told me that my brain would soon start ignoring the floaters. It did, but for a while it was though I was afflicted with a plague of money spiders. People thought I'd gone mad, waving away unseen insects.

Having established the scale of the problem as minor, he booked me in for a more thorough examination a few days later. All was confirmed. I needed no treatment and everything he told me came to pass.

I don't like the idea of an eye operation, but if people can have cataract surgery while still awake (my mate) and have injections into their eyeballs while awake (my mother), then how bad can it really be? :)

Best wishes!

Your description of “waving arms “ while walking …I might have ran away from you. 😉

I always use eye protection when riding my bike. Especially after hearing about a girl having the same accident as you, and losing an eye. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

It’s one of those senses that would make it difficult to ride if you no longer had it.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how they look. 👀

Quick update, had surgery yesterday. Needed laser treatment and a gas bubble put behind the retina to fix it in place. Gotta lay down for 50 mins every hr for 5 days and no strenuous activities for minimum of 2 wks , i might die or boredom 🤪

I once managed to split my eyeball open 😱
Removing a radiator and on my knees. It was stuck on something so I had a bit of wood on the skirting board and was pulling up until it suddenly freed itself and I managed to somehow punch myself 🤔
As this was late in the day I decided not to go to A&E until the morning. The eye specialist was quite happy I didn't crash his evening.
I had split the white part of my eye and it needed a couple of stitches. Which was painless, unlike me pulling at a bit of loose skin on my eye.
Massive mistake and extremely painful 😢

Interesting information.

I'd never considered that noticing you were unable to flush the toilet would be the first indicator of potential eye issues.

Maybe we should see if this can be made a sticky for anyone else with toilet aided diagnostic eye issues ?

That’s horrendous, are you good now ?
I also had stitches and could see the needle and thread going in my eye . Was very weird !

That is a serious recovery regime! You have my sympathy. Just take it one day at a time and all of a sudden you will be free and seeing clearly from both eyes! Focus on the prize!!

Let the radio be your friend, that and your music of course.
