• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Ep801 solution

Is there any way to add a BB spacer behind the SM-CRE80-12-B 53mm chainring to fit 38T?
I added some spacers behind & in the front between the spider and the chainring, and managed to get 36T to fit instead of the stock 34T.

SM-CRE80-12-SB would have 56.5mm chainline but there's no 38T option. Any other options?

The gap of the chainring to the chain stay, at any chainline distance, is fixed. So the only way to to add larger chainrings is to shift the chainline outward. Then the bevelled chain stay end creates more gap.

This comes with cross chaining repercussions, that effect shift quality, chain retention and transmission life.

There are definitely 104BCD 38T chainrings available on Aliexpress. I have used the 34T and 32T. They have been hardwearing.

Sizing down is more the usual, as with EMTB riding, you normally want more torque, rather than more speed, especially if speed restricted.

That said. On my Amflow I replaced the chainring with the Aliexpress chainring of the same size. Torque is not an issue on the Amflow ...... :ROFLMAO:

BTW. The Aliexpress Chainring is performing nicely on the Amflow, even with the ridiculous power and torque the DJI motor produces.

I can highly recommend Emax tuning for the DU-EP801 motor… I have just bit the bullet on a brand new Cannondale after plenty of research on the possibility and Emax is by far the safest, most native derestriction method available as opposed to the modules that plug in to the wiring. Markus and EMax answered all of my questions and provided phenomenal support, even on Sundays when I was bombarding him with additional questions. My bike now sails past the EU limit and happily continues to climb until I gas out, no longer the bike!
