Hi guys,

Please listen to the audio clip attached.

So I have a 2021 YT decoy elite, with an EP8 motor. Since last summer, an intermittent creaking noise has been coming from the cranks / motor area. It had gone away for a month or so, but now it's back and happens most rides. It only happens when pedalling. It happens with the motor on or off, and regardless of mode you are in. If you stop pedalling it goes away. Its worse under load but does still happen with very little load on the pedals after the sound has emerged. Strangely, if you stop pedalling and then pedal again it often goes away for a while. Then later in the ride it comes back again. Almost like it picks up a different tooth or combination of events or something and is ok for a bit.

It's so loud and sounds awful. You can almost feel the vibration through the pedals.

I'm positive its not linkages or suspension as it ONLY does this when pedaling.

Can anyone help with ideas on what this could be?

Thank you!

I had exactly the same. Try tightening up the crank arm bolts that connect them to the motor.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you have the same Shimano EP8 as me?

Just wondering as I mentioned your comment to my bike shop and theysaid this:
'"On the Shimano it's very unlikely to be crank noise as if it's loose it's not held on by friction like the equivalent Bosch crank arms."

Thanks for the help!

Sorry, no, I have the Bosch. However, everything is held by friction (even when slightly loose) whenever a bolt is used, so eliminate that possibility first, including the pedals.
