• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

EMax tuning , ultimate EP801 solution , 4.3 FW ! over-run tune !

Is their anyone who does this in the uk?
I'm 64 yrs old and not tech savvy.
Just try to get in contact with the guys from eMax-Tuning via email ([email protected]). They most probably will give you detailed instructions on what to do and maybe also can help you via a remote control session. For sure it would be great if you already have access to a Windows based computer and a cable-bound SM-PCE02 interface, but it also should be possible to rent this gear in the UK on a daily basis if you don´t have or don´t want to buy this equipment.

Its really not difficult. If you can use a smartphone you will be fine. Ive been riding mine unrestricted fir a couple if months now and its so much better. No fear of the speed limiter cutting in on the trails makes me much more confident.

So far so good , new emax 4.3 moded FW working, new features with overrun assist too ! give a sensible boost 😬

Mandatory :

eMax MiniMax 2.55
eTube Project 5.32

a pc , SM-PCE02

Need remote session , easy with Markus !

Hi you couldn’t help me out , looking for the angle set in the app for same bike , thanks
So who could not help you out in what and why?
And what angle and what exact app and what same bike(s) are you writing about?
What exact is the intention of your post?
Please be aware that this is a public forum and it would be good for all readers of your post if you would write in a way that other forum members can understand your post, especially if this is the first post of you...
So, please try to write in a more detailed and precise way so that also non-native speaking English readers (like me) are able to understand your statement (or is it even a question?).
Even if I put your post to an automatic translator (like Google translate) it only gives garbage to me.
So, at least I don´t have any clue what you want to write or ask...
Please try again in a more detailed way and then most probably somebody (who can understand your statement or question) will try to help you.
Thanks and Happy New Year 2026 :)

Hi all , I have a 2022 Santa Cruz bullit with Shimano ep8 motor, the motor died so I have replaced it with new Shimano ep8 motor. I also have the emax mini tuning app and in the settings where you can change country etc there is an option for motor angle. Was wondering if if anyone had same bike and was able to help me out with the angle number, many thanks

Thanks a lot for the further information which helps hugely and clarifies things. (y):)
In the meantime I was communicating with the guys from eMax-Tuning (which for sure I know quite well and most times have a well established and fast communication channel to them) and they told me that you have explained your case already to them via email which is great.
So most probably you already have received an email from them explaining the situation and also some information on how to solve the issue.

So here also for other readers interested in this topic:
The mounting angle is not relevant to the normal riding functionality of the bike at all, but only for the "walk assist mode" (pushing the bike, e.g. going uphill next to the bike).
So, the programmed value for the mouting angle normally does not matter really.

However, if you really want to measure the correct mounting angle of the motor in your bike, then the guys from eMax-Tuning should have written some information about this in their email to you (see e.g. this German forum post).
If you still have access to a cable-bound interface, then you also easily can read the value of your old motor by using the "direct connection" functionality with the Windows based miniMax - program (even if the motor is already disassembled from the bike). The motor will then be solely powered from your computer and you can read the data from the old motor easily this way (and then program this old setting to the new motor).

Big thanks to emax that unlocked my bike and gave me the bike that i deserve 😉 shimano ep801 firmware 4.4.2 it was so easy and I recomend it to 100% if you want to have a bike whit full potential and well spendt money.

Any experiences with higher FWs than 4.4.2?
This is a quite strange question...
This thread is about the DU-EP801 drive unit from Shimano and currently there is no "higher" motor firmware than 4.4.2, because at the moment version 4.4.2 is the latest motor firmware from Shimano, see here, go down to “Firmware Updates” and then use “Filter by Model No”, then “DU-EP801”:

So what exactly is the intention of your question?
