Ebike shipping

I don't have a photo fo the package, but it was a special container covered with stickers. Shipping 4kg from spain to germany in 3 days is pretty cheap, not 119€ with a business discount included. I'd say it was properly treated.

I beleive you sent it ok and everything worked out fine and everyone had the best of intentions. I just thought it would be nice to see official paperwork confirming they offer this service. Ive been googling this for ages and i know it is an absolute minefield paperwork wise

I agree, finding info was a chore, I ended going with MBE because we do a lot of shipping with them...

Also if I'm not wrong I've seen battery rentals from some local bike shops at around 12-15€ a week
 
I travel quite alot, often off the beaten track so rentals dont really work for me. Thanks anyway.

Informative but im afraid too much hassle for me to spend hours understanding. Thanks very much for posting all the same.

IMHO it would be great if a courier offered a service where i drop my battery off, fill a form in(in 2 minutes),pay and collect it in a few days at the destination.

The mbe service sounds great assuming it is what we think it is.
 
I just had a 1400 Wh battery shipped from China to Denmark via DHL as dangerous goods together with some other bike parts and the total cost was around 100 US$.

Woodside cargo will transport the battery alone from Stroud nr Gloucester to fuerteventura for 42 euro each way or complete bike for 142 euro one way

No unfortunately not but it came separately from the other stuff I bought in box clearly marked “Battery”.

Btw got my new Levo shipped to me from Spain to Denmark and the bike shop charged me 15€ for that - Very cheap and that was DPD.

I wondered if anyone might have any more information on this. I'd like to send my ebike battery around Europe. Ideally I would like to turn up to a local international shipper (e.g. dhl, ups) in any country with a correctly packaged battery and paperwork and pay. I just re read this thread and it looks like there are small companies who can do it but no international ones. Some of the places I'd like to visit are well off the beaten track. Countries I'm interested in include Sweden, UK, Italy and Romania.

I can't seem to get hold of a dangerous goods specialist at dhl or ups. I spoke with MBE international who say they can do it in theory but the cost is very high (1500 GBP for a bike) and they don't have offices everywhere.

I don't want to incur the wrath of the law so I my conversations go along the lines of "Please could you help me send my ebike battery? I know the process is complicated and there are huge fines/ prison sentances associated with getting it wrong." I have't got the help i need yet :-)

Also renting a battery or bike at these locations will be expensive as I intend to stay for weeks/ months. I'd be happy to send overland/ by ship as this process seems easier.
 
@Marke You can do it with UPS, You would however need to become an account shipper first. I kind of gave up on this as its not easy for people who want to just do a one off shipment but what you are saying you would like to do may make it worthwhile by setting up an account, you would complete all the paperwork up front and open an account by contacting the call center, however its ground service only and you would have to go to a UPS customer center (essentially a delivery depot) rather than a high street Access point (a shop with a sign in the window) each time you wanted to drop the battery off. Turn up at the counter with the package, select standard service and the charges would be billed to your account that you would pay when the bill came.

Come to think of it as an account customer you could probably just book a pick up on line in which ever country you were staying in and the driver would come to your address and collect, you would need to be able to print a label mind you.

Remember it's a ground service so it moves via road and it would be ok through mainland Europe but not strictly speaking if it has to go via ferry to say the Mediterranean islands. I know they do move that way but they should not as that's covered by maritime shipping regulations and all the large carriers don't strictly speaking have the right agreements, however ADR (that's dangerous goods via road) would be able to go from the UK to Sweden. For an example just a couple of days UK-Sweden as it goes through the tunnel, in this case it goes UK-NL-DE then in to Sweden in 2 days.

Its a bit of work for sure but if you were planning multiple stops on a round Europe trip it might be worth it.

Of course this is only worth it if you are flying with your bike to the different destinations, as if you were driving none of this would even be needed, you would just leave the battery on the bike.

If it helps I can get you a contact email for the UPS DG shipping coordinator for your country if you let me know where you are based, the 2 guys for the UK are Geoff and Roy I know them both so hooking you up via email not a problem.

I have been trying to find out how to achieve this using dhl but have not succeeded.
