• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Hi. I'm very interested in this. will this work on the newer displays like purion 400 and kiox 400c? Cheers
The display type is irrelevant, the limit for the speed is a setting in the Smart system, that Rudie accesses via a Bosch tool that he temporarily adds to your PC/laptop, that you connect to your bike by usb C cable.

OK thanks. Just want to make sure. Also I know he changes the max speed limit to the US. But when it comes to updates, would the app get confused or will it still think it's the UK with just a higher speed limit?

If you read the thread, you'll see that the speed change is ignored, although the limit is 32kph, the system still shows our speed etc in mph

Feedback:
This won't change anything other than speedlimit.
I won't reach 64km/h with my current setup (34t, 11t cassete, 27.5 x2.4).
On trails, I don't notice nothing better or extraordinary, which is a positive thing. I normally hit the 25km/h in some parts of the trail, making the ebike real ackward.
Now, it has so much flow!
I've checked the Average Speed, on previous rides, before and afrer the flash, and it hasn't changed.
My trails are mountainious, so you big inclines, and although you have assistance above 25km/h, it really hasn't changed any timming on DH runs, or uphills. Climbing some inclines above 20km/h is really hard... let alone above 25km/h.

On the road, and flat parts, it's where this Flash, really makes a difference.
You no longer feel pushing a big beast ebike, but rather a lighter bike.

If I had a Bosch city ebike, this would be for.sure, the best update.
The difference between 25km/h and a little over 30km/h, makes all the difference. Is like drivers have more awareness (???), and I don't get past that often (edited: it's only +5...+6...+7 km/h).
It's almost what I felt, when I started riding with a reflective vest. People see you, and you don't have that feeling of having cars passing you too close).

This flash has really confirmed what I thought about ebikes speedlimit. It's really unreasonable and nonsense.
Personally I would prefer to have a restriction in power, rather than speed.
CX4 has 600W, and CX5 has 750W, but I do believe restrictions, should really be in Power, or Battery Voltage. Just saying...

I certainly get that but with some caution in respect to those towns and cities that are blessed with a cycling friendly infrastructure, we should not forget other cyclist on analogue bikes , particularly families with children, who will likely be traveling much slower than a 32 kmh e-bike!

New member here (I know it's not much to vouch for) seen this post as I had issues with my speedbox limiting the motor. I live quite remote and it had put me in some serious situations out in the bush (long heavy rides home in 40*C). I do a bit of gold prospecting and use my Cube Stereo One77 to get out past where cars struggle to get to, so speed is everything as I can travel 35+kms in a trip.

I was about to give up and just go back to normal Australian limit. Man you are a life saver (literally).

This is the real deal. Thanks again!

Would this unlock method be compatible with the bosch connect module?

I know normal mod chips can cause issues and be instantly detected due to the gps tracking in the connect module tracking the speed and it not matching the bike speed so it throws errors.

I’ve had it done (32 km\h) a few weeks ago by Rudy.
Everything (and I mean literally everything!) remains as is, including your settings, metrics & historical data.
The ONLY thing that changes is the range of the max speed setting slider and obviously the corresponding max. Speed, which remains to be truly displayed on all types of screens.
The country change has no influence on the Bosch connect module: it keeps working as is.

Just 1 tiny typical American safety thing will appear after you’ve pressed the on-key…
A ‘drive safely’ message needs to be confirmed by pressing the ok key.

This is no hack or speedchip: it’s just a plain change of country setting in the official software.

Just had this done(32kmph) . All went smoothly and works as expected. Thank you Rudie!

I only have a Mac to hand ( Apple silicon) and it worked fine through a windows 11 for ARM vm in parallels.

I guess this is not something we can hide from the dealer if something were to go wrong with the bike whilst still in warranty, so is flashing back to UK spec an option we can do?

My journey on this forum started almost exactly 2 years ago with petition to bump limits to 20 mph in UK:

I've dreamed about bike with 20 mph (32 km/h) limit without speedbox and with all stats working correctly. Now, two years later I've finally got what I wished for!
Thank you @Rudie for making it happen! You are a star and silent hero.
All goes smooth, quick and professional.

For me at least, worth mentioning it only lets you select 19mph until you press reset for each cycling mode, then it says 20mph. Think it’s a bug in the app as it was the same before

As mention a couple of posts ago, what will happen to any warranty issues if this is done? I’m pretty sure Bosch wont help if this has been done, and it will invalidate the warranty. Even if it can be taken back off for a warranty or repair, will there be a trace of this being done previously?
PS, not being a Debbie downer on this. It’d be a great mod for my SX bike but while it’s still in warranty, I’m not sure I’d personally risk it.

I don't see why it might. Motor and whole system is designed for that and it isn't doing anything it shouldn't.

This change uses the official Bosch firmware configuration that Bosch themselves apply for other markets where a 32 km/h (20 mph) limit is standard, so the motor and whole system are still operating fully within their original design parameters. It is done via authorised, licensed Bosch diagnostic software, not by hacking the controller or modifying any safety‑critical components. That means all ride data, range estimation, error codes and updates continue to work exactly as Bosch intended, which in my view is a much cleaner and safer approach than tinkering with third‑party speed boxes, dongles or chips that spoof the speed signal or interfere with the system.

The question is whether Bosch can detect, in the event of a warranty claim—for example by looking at log files—that firmware not approved for the country was installed or that an abnormal wheel circumference was stored.

That would be like a manufacturer trying to void your warranty because you drove 150 mph on a legal no‑limit stretch of German autobahn in a UK‑sold car where the limit is 70 mph.

The point is, no end user can actually change the region without specialist software, so this would have had to have been done on purpose by a third party.

Unless you say you imported the bike or something, I doubt they would believe that. It's a risk we take,

Beschreibung Bosch Smart System 32 km/h USA Geschwindigkeitsänderung

Description Bosch Smart System 32 KM/H USA Speed Change

No speed chip, software solution.

Works with all magnets, and bikes with abs.

We will set your bike to 32 km/h.

A maximum speed limit of 64 km/h is also possible, but the display will show half speed.

We then change wheel size to half!

Also activate the eMTB+ mode, powermore, if you don't have it yet

Everything is done remotely!

You will need a laptop/PC, a USB-C cable, and TeamViewer.
So I was thinking- for people that are used to miles per hour and miles on the odometer - would it be possible to adjust the wheel size to 0.62 of the real size? Then set the display to read km but it would actually be correct in miles.
