Chainring as bashguard?

Hmmm ......... First impact and there is a problem Houston. Bent the chainring guard inwards and it rubbed on my adapted chain guide. Nothing debilitating, but super annoying.

Easily fixed with plyers and some touch-up paint. But definitely not a final solution.

Would a plastic bash ring be less likely to deform? I seem to remember my E13 one was better than the metal MRP I had back in the day

Putting side load through the motor every time the chainring/chainguard grounds doesn't seem to be a good idea, unless the motor is designed and built to absorb those side loads of course.

wrong, it can:
I meant fitting the guard to the original spider and cranks. And the E-Thirteen is completely out of stock on any site that delivers to Australia.

Anyway. I found these 4mm guards with recessed chainring bolt holes, meaning it should fit the original spider without contacting the original cranks, because the protruding bolt was contacting the crank.

So I've ordered one and will let everyone know the results.

Currently it's impacting the chainring, and damaging my chain. So contacting the guard has got to be better, and Amflow support recommended the chainring guard.

I’m liking the idea of a skid plate mounted to the bottom of the motor like Malfe suggested more and more. I reckon that would put less stress through the motor on impact and look less hideous than that gold chain ring (it looks like something you’d see attached to a bike from Dubai).

I've removed the golden ring and I'm trialling a wooden version of a skid plate, I knocked up with a jig saw. My only concern is the load going into the plastic bash guard is quite concentrated in a narrow strip.

So I will be fitting the two 4mm Bashings I have ordered and trialling them both.

As I have stated. I have a decent bunny hop, so don't bang the chainring often, it's just I get the timing of lifting the rear wheel late some times. So I'm trying to reduce chain damage.

As you can see in the photo. It's the chain that is the lowest point and will impact the rock. And my concern is that burrs on the chain will impact the AXS transmission shifting, as well as damage the cassette.

I can't find an 8-point wrench to loosen the plate. Do you know where it can be found or what its measurements are?

So the combined Chainring and guard turned up.

2 issues.

1) The teeth are not narrow/wide
2) Whilst the mounting component is 4mm. The guard part is only 2mm.

That said, it's 4mm right up to where the guard starts, so will be much stonger than the gold unit, which was all 2mm thickness.

I will try it. But I think the other 4mm solid guard I ordered, will be the answer. It has a few more days before arrival.

Why can’t you guys just make your own skid plate?
I made one for my Gen 3 Levo, took a couple of hours and cost maybe $10.

Looking to possibly pickup an Amflow in the near future and you can bet I will figure out a solution to this issue.

I've built these types of guards in Aluminium. But with the Amflow. What do you attach the back of it to ? There is only a single very small screw that would snap under an impact.

You need to create about 25mm additional clearance from the existing bash guard to protect the chainring.

Second thing is. Some people aren't going to fabricate stuff. And need an off the shelf solution.

I've decided I'm not even going to try fitting this combined chainring and guard, due to the lack of narrow/wide chain teeth. My concern is the lack of this will cause chain droppages, which could scratch my carbon frame. It's just not worth it.

My existing chainring is the same brand in MOTSUV, and had narrow/wide teeth. And it has been fantastic. The ad for the the combined one didn't say whether it was narrow/wide. It was worth a try.

I'm also counting on the 4mm guard that I ordered, being the best solution. It has landed and should be here by Monday.

Really?
Wasn’t slamming anyone just making a suggestion.
If ya got something positive to contribute rock on, if not…
it’s about as ridiculous as suggesting everybody should be able to manufacture their own metal parts instead of wanting to be able to buy something ready to mount…

the one we are talking for over a month now?
No idea, I only saw the press release yesterday. Assumed it was a new version.

ProtectEMTB.com make some metal skid/bash plates, but they don’t extend far enough down to protect the chain ring.

Skid plate

Radikarus?
Ive made a dozen or more of these in my garage after other riders saw mine out on the trails.
Lots of guys like me that see a problem and fix it if an aftermarket answer isn’t availible.
Like I said no disrespect.
Nothing wrong with building a better mousetrap.
If I do go with an Amflow down the road I will keep my opinions/mods to myself I guess.
Carry on.

I found this in my garage but I think it fit on a Bafang motor and was going to give it to anyone who needed it but Definetly won’t fit the Amflow motor.

I think it’s 130 BCD anyway and (5) hole.

Yeah. Saw a similar one on Ebay. But as you say, it sits flush on the guard, and would only protect the plastic bash guard, not the chain ring.

@Astro66
i ordered the 155mm pinnd cranks and the same chainring like yours but without the "stone" branding
a guy over on fb has this combo and it works
not sure if the 145mm cranks will work without rubbing on the cranks
will let you know...

My guard turned up today. Looks ready good. Even my Gold chainring bolts recess nicely. Heading to the ski fields today, so cannot fit till Monday. I'll post pics once fitted.

BTW. I also bought a black touch up pen to repair after impacts.

As I've used the Motsuv chainrings on my last 3 EMTBs and they have performed perfectly. I ordered one of these as well. The only issue I see is it will need to mount on the outside of the spider, to have the same chainline.

But I'll give it a go as well.

Would this fit if you mount it outside of the spider? Looks a bit tight to me but i would like to have the option to ride a 38t chainring
