Can you connect the M2/S to devices like Garmin or Apps like Strava yet?

I know the M1 cannot connect to devices like Garmin Edge or Apps like Strava to export power meter data and other metrics. I’m hoping they remedy this with the M2. Anyone try this? Apologies if this has been covered but I could not find it. Currently using PM pedals with my M1 which is suboptimal.

I have no idea if it exports power data but you seem to be able to connect it to Strava per the app.

Hey az2au, thanks for posting that. I knew about the Kamoot integration. That is mostly for maps I think. I did not know about Strava. I'd be curious to know if that exports power data. I really want to know if anyone with a Garmin can connect now? Thanks!

it exports speed, power and cadence (and probably pulse if a sensor is connected to the bike) to strava

@BruceJR I have no idea what it will pull and if there are settings that need to be made so, let me be clear, this could be somewhat misleading but I pulled two sample files from the same ride on a Pivot Ampd. The Garmin GPX has the following data on ever point: lat/lon, elevation (m), timestamp, heart rate (bpm), ambient temperature (°C). The Avinox file has: lat, lon, time, elevation. That's it. No heart rate, no temperature, no cadence, no power, no extensions of any kind on individual points.

Furthermore there are two additional problems with the Avinox file. 1. It uses a non-standard namespace in the extensions block and strict GPX parsers will reject that for sure. 2. Elevation is weird/exaggerated and seems to have a lot of noise present. This is the only ride I have on one so I cannot speak to any errors that are in config/user based. I can only tell you what I see based on this. I'm sure I could hand write an alignment tool/have an AI write a quick alignment tool. This is a perfect use case for AI as it would take me probably an hour vs I'm guessing 1-2 min for AI. In fact, let's go ahead and do that...

My prompt to Claude: "Can you provide a python script to align the two gpx files I provided and produce a unified output?"

It took about 3 min to generate and I spent about 5 looking at it to see if there were any obvious errors. I didn't find any and it seems reasonable enough.

NB: I didn't have it format for Strava nor did I research what it would take to make it Strava ready so this may not be all that helpful out of the box but at least it will give you an idea of how to attack the problem you are looking to solve. To my knowledge there is no way to connect directly to Garmin yet but that's only because I don't see any option in the app itself. Hope this helps.

were you able to pair a Garmin Edge or Watch? I won’t be wanting to mess with files. You can import then into Garmin Connect and have a record of the activity. But unless you record the activity on a Garmin device it won’t be counted toward your training load or recovery status or anything like that. Right now I’m using power meter pedals but I’d rather use different pedals.

I do not see a way to do that but I honestly don't track anything when I ride an e-mtb as it is less than 5% of my overall rides. Someone else may be more helpful in this case as the only thing I ever use an e-mtb for is recovery rides. Good luck and post if you find your solution!

The Avinox would appear as an ebike or power meter on the Garmin when adding a new sensor.

Here is what a sample ride looks like in Strava on my set up.

Here's how it works:
Avinox is linked to Strava account as shown in a previous post.
Avinox has sim card and cloud sync enabled. (not sure this is required if you let the Avinox phone app grab the data from the bike)
In Strava app on Apple watch, start emtb ride.
After the ride on the watch, "Finish" and save the activity.
2 versions of the same ride will appear in Strava, one from the Strava watch app and one from Avinox.
The Strava version has heart rate, GPS data and some other stuff from the Apple watch.
The Avinox version has power, cadence, watts and other Avinox stuff.
Once I get home I use GOTOES to merge the 2 versions into one master activity, then delete the original 2. GOTOES is linked to my Strava account so it pulls directly from Strava so it's very easy, takes less than 1 minute to do the merge process.

It seems clumsy (and it kinda is) but once your accounts are linked the only work you do is hit one button on your Apple watch when you start your ride, one button on the watch when you end your ride, then spend less than a minute at some point later to merge the 2 activities.

QQ: though. Isn't that just estimated power and not an actual number. I see that on Strava when I ride bikes without a power meter and as far as I can tell there is no power data coming from the Avinox file. I don't think it is a very useful number unless it is an actual power meter.

Again, I don't see a way to do it. It doesn't show up like the TQ motors do. I haven't tried it on a Bosch either though.

I'll try to do it again tonight after I get back from dinner but I have a lot of bikes (enough that some might indicate that I have a bike problem) and use a Garmin head unit on every ride. I'm pretty experienced at adding them. Experience enough to know that I have to use different Garmin devices depending on which ones I'm riding because there is a limit on sensors on a given unit (which is annoying AF). I can tell you that the Mondraker Neat RR SL shows, the Trek Slash+ shows, the Orbea Rallon RS shows but I didn't see anything to add on either the Bosch or the Avinox.

I have Transmission derailleurs on all of my bikes with the exception of the Rallon RS and I know all of those also appear instantly. Additionally I have PMs on four of those bikes and they all show up. Somehow Strava always has a mythical power number (which has to be totally made up) on every ride despite the overwhelming majority of my rides happening on bikes with no power meter whatsoever. I've never really looked into if it matches the AXS app either but I just that for actual PM readings because at least it is the actual source.

I will tell you what I find out.

it uploads to Starva automatically
I get that part. I’m just saying I have doubts about the power info being actually sent. I see it on bikes that have no power meter and aren’t e-mtbs so I can’t see any way for it to be real and, yet, there it is. The file that comes Avinox that you can download certainly didn’t have it. That’s my question.

I just double checked. It doesn’t show up. To be sure I checked both of my Garmin head units (an 850 and a 1050). They are both fully updated with the most current software.

Thanks! This is the same with the M1. I had hoped they would open this up with the M2. Sad. For now I use Garmin Rally XC pedals which is not my favorite but I want to ride with power data.

Amflow Chat feature works pretty well. They said 'no dice'. I hope they enable it in the future. Every EMTB I've ever seen supports this.
