The Bullit is a Bosch bike. The 2025/2026/2027 Bullit runs the
Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 (120Nm, 750W claimed peak on current firmware), with a 600Wh internal PowerTube.
That´s correct, however, there are earlier Santa Cruz Bullit´s which were equipped with Shimano STePS drive units.
See e.g.
here in the Santa Cruz archive.
The Bullit 3 MY22 was equipped with the DU-EP800 from Shimano.
The Bullit 3 MY23 was equipped with the DU-EP800 from Shimano.
The Bullit 3 MY24 was equipped with the DU-EP801 from Shimano.
I'm on a Santa Cruz Bullit.
Has anyone bought a Shimano EP8 motor from AliExpress?
Ideally please don´t use the wording "
EP8" and exactly specify the model year of your Santa Cruz Bullit bike to avoid any misunderstandings and confusion.
Unfortunately Shimano has branded the newer DU-EP801 (released end of 2022) and the older DU-EP800 (released in 2020) on the right side motor cover with the same “EP8” signature.
However, the older DU-EP800 and the newer DU-EP801 are completely different types of drive units in mechanical, electronical, firmware and software aspects.
To visually distinguish these two motor types, you can have a look at
this German forum post or also
this or
this one.
Also ideally please give some more information and details regarding your question to make it easier for anyone else who might be able to help you to understand your intention.
So, I assume you want to get a new (replacement) drive unit for your bike (because maybe your current drive unit is broken or you want a spare unit)?
There are a lot of (online-) shops who are selling (brand-new) Shimano STePS drive units (see e.g.
here for a DU-EP800 and
here for a DU-EP801) and for sure you also can buy from Asian sellers (like AliExpress).
Most Asian shops deliver good (brand-new) quality drive units, we only have heard from very few complaints due to broken packages, damaged drive unit housings and also additonal high taxes. However, most sellers will deliver perfect products. Just check the ratings of the shops.
Also it is very important to know that any brand-new Shimano STePS drive unit will be delivered in the initial factory production state and so e.g. has a programmed max. wheel circumference value of 3000mm which will result that a bike with a real rear wheel circumference of around 2200mm (which is typical for a 27,5" rear wheel) with this drive unit only will give you a max. motor support speed of approx. 20km/h (and the bike display already will indicate 25km/h at this speed).
For programming the correct configuration of such a brand new drive unit you should contact the guys from
eMax-Tuning via
email, because they have all the tools and knowledge to configure such a new drive unit correctly.
