Broken spoke and quotation from AMFLOW Customer Support

I have just been quoted $750 for a re-spoke of my rear using sapim strongs and brass nipples.

One of the German retailers is doing a complete set of DT FR541's/DT350's/DT Competitions for €424 posted to Australia.

Thats $736au for a complete new wheelset in 29" or mullet combo with the current toughest rims DT Swiss makes.

PM me if interested.

I have an Amflow PL pro carbon and have now snapped a total of 6 spokes at the nipple on the rear. I am 67 years old and dont ride that hard. From what I understand from all the forums is that the machine tensioned HMC30 wheels from Amflow are suffering spoke failures from uneven tensioning and under-engineering. This was verified by 2 wheel builders testing wheels that were in for spoke replacement. Also the Sapim light spokes and alloy nipples were not sufficiently robust enough for the lesser 28 spoke pattern. Apparently this was a weight saving exercise for Amflow where critical strength was required especially with the motors high torque. Given this is a premium product and there is quite a lot of these failures occuring to the wheelsets. I would think Amflow would be offering a partial rebate at least on a rebuild with new stronger spokes to at least cover this under-engineered problem that exists with their product. I have just been quoted $750 for a re-spoke of my rear using sapim strongs and brass nipples. I'm not happy especially coming off a Specialized Levo Sworks that I had for 5 years without a single broken spoke. I would invite an Amflow customer support team member to comment on this..
Yes, marketing is chasing lightweight as the selling point of those bikes, for the price of underengineering.
The dealers are happy to make extra cash.

Would like to compare the weight of amflow with removeable battery to its direct competitors with bosch and see where the savings come from and if they are worth it.

underengineering.
Sapim making weak spokes is not under engineering. Dt Swiss makes a spoke similar for Ebikes, and ive busted those as well. Matter of fact the Amflow spokes I busted were from large rock hits.

Agreed that stronger spokes are better and do not break as much. But thats not what your claiming. On thi sissue I blame Sapim, since the Dt Swiss counterparts with similar specs are not breaking at the same rate.

I am 61 years old, 1.75 m tall, and weigh 73 kg. I live in Nova Lima, Brazil, where the trails are very technical and known for destroying bikes. The terrain here is made of iron ore, which is especially hard and abrasive.

I broke several spokes on my rear carbon wheel; they always failed at the junction between the spoke and the nipple. I replaced all of them with DT Swiss Champion 1.8 mm spokes and rode 2,000 km without any problems.

Last week, I hit the wheel sideways against the tip of a rock and broke the carbon rim. Fortunately, the wheel didn’t lose air, and I decided to keep using it until the new wheel arrived. I’ve probably ridden about 200 km in this condition.

I’ve already received the new wheel, and on Monday I’m going to replace the spokes with DT Swiss 1.8 mm before I start using it with new tires.

I had one of the spokes on the drive side of my rear wheel break when the bike was sitting in the garage! Another broke riding up a fire road at a modest pace and both of these broke within 10 days of assembling the bike.

I absolutely love my Amflow and I've had a bunch of bikes and e-bikes. This is my favorite so far, but the carbon wheels on the Pro model are not well done. The company should provide some relief to customers on this.

wheels on the Pro model are not well done.
it is a well known Sapim issue. similar spokes are not breaking under rough use. Spokes are cheap and easy to fix, but you can keep on crying if that is just you

You are the cantankerous one aren't you! You may consider it the norm or at least not abnormal for spokes to break on a $10,000 bike when it's sitting in a garage, but I assure you it is not normal and not acceptable for a new premium product. I've built and serviced thousands of bikes and never had such failures. Spokes should not break on new wheels with no significant mileage or rough riding. This is a warranty issue that should be covered by the manufacturer.

My recepcie for a set of very strong wheels:

Spapim RACE for 0,67eur a piece bellow:

I hear that amflow used 32 spokes on M2 instead of 28 on M1. But there is no much misinformation going on that i am not sure whether to trust it.

MX wheels are very commonly build as 32h rear, 28h front. Nothing to do with the motor.

That's how updated wheelset on Amflow is - 32h rear, 28h front

This is a warranty issue
And Amflow has covered many of these. Not only that their new wheels dont have these spokes anymore. Sapim made a bad product. DT Swiss spokes of similar design snap much less, by specs on paper Sapims should have held, but they made a weak product. most people mod these bikes, so its just another thing to keep me busy. No big deal.
