Any news on whether new models with Bosch Gen 5 motors will start to be shipped with the new software and screen? Any inside info, Rob?
 
Good update. Would be good to know what the battery consumption will be like on all the 600wh bikes that are coming out. Feel like 800wh+ will be the way to go if the power consumption is a lot higher if you don't want to faf around with the range extender.

Video states 25% extra consumption, I've got a 600wh battery and don't mind the hassle of a range extender, though I do mind the extra cost. Even the cable is a total ripoff.

Looking forward to the update in July. I did get up early today and check for a firmware upgrade just in case it was released.

its upto 25% extra consumption, relating to the 25% higher amount of peak watts. Although, you're not gonna be maxxing out the 750w continuously, so in reality its going to use more, but unlikely to be a full 25% more (unless you're riding up a mountain road in turbo continuously, which I did yesterday)

We climbed 1200 metres in EMTB+ and a bit of turbo in a single run and it I had 33% battery when I got to the top with the 600+250 powermore.
 
I’m really surprised they didn’t copy Spesh and give the new race motor some increase in power over the regular one, it’s not going to look very attractive now when someone is shopping for a bike, you need a bit of a reason to spend that extra money. Even if they kept the 750w limit but just added 10Nm or torque it would be something.

750w is nice, not that 600w wasn’t enough before for the vast majority of riding, but now people can get “enough” (And then some) power out of all the bikes out there for any normal riding. I say this as someone who rides a Bafang M560 which has ridiculous power available (1200w peak) but do 99% of my riding on a mode I setup that peaks at about 500w, which is plenty for me, even being a heavier guy. The most I ever go to is my next mode up that peaks at just over 600w and even that feels like a lot in any technical riding.

Hey Rob, will you be releasing a video regarding power consumption/range between the new Bosch 100nm vs Specialized, DJI etc?

Any news on a 800wh Commencal as well?
 
Cube has included a compatibility indicator on the site with the 100nm upgrade, and as I imagined, all CX5-equipped bikes turn out to be compatible regardless of drivetrain and wheels/hubs used (edit: those with internal hub gear will have the upgrade but limited to 90nm)

No upgrade has been announced yet for the SX, but I don't think you'll have any issues mounting the Kiox 400C - as long as your frame has the right mount.

Just remember, it needs to be installed by an authorized Bosch dealer, since the motor and controller need to be paired together.

Something’s cooking... and also the Performance Line PX might be on the menu too — that trademark filed on Jan 28 didn’t go unnoticed 😶

EDIT: Rumor has it the SX might get a boost to 60Nm... paraphrasing Neil Armstrong: that's one giant leap for the CX, one small step for the SX 😆!

I have just watched a video featuring Danny Mac showing just what the new upgrades are capable of, more interesting though is Hans Rey riding a GT powered by the new 2026 Bosch CX-R, apparently GT are on pause.

I think we've seen enough comparisons to know they're all basically the same. Want more range? Use a lower assist mode.

That was not my takeaway from the comparisons. There are some threads on here with seemingly well put together charts from some German magazines that indicated Bosch motors were more efficient (about 10%) than the competition. From memory, I think those were from before the DJI motor came out, but some anecdotal reports I've seen on the DJI was that it was more power hungry than most, so you have data showing Bosch is more efficient than average, and anecdote showing DJI is less efficient.

Having said all of that, the frustrating thing is the configurable power settings play a huge role in power consumption, and with each motor having it's own app, settings, and algorithms it makes it nearly impossible to do a real-world apples to apples test. Do you test Turbo, regular, or Eco? Then in whichever power mode you choose, do you use the app to adjust the torque to come on nearly instantly, or gradually ramp up in an acceleration, etc...or do you leave all the settings stock? If stock, then you're rewarding the motor maker with the least aggressive tune in whatever mode you've chosen. In addition, my observation is that the German magazines are often sort of fanboys of German products, so along with the mode/settings question, there is also a bit of a question about how impartial the charts I mentioned above are.

I would still like to see some sort of standardized lab test with a known and fixed power input to the motors, so we can see what the relative output is. At the very least, that would help us to see what the frictional losses are of the various designs, even if it isn't entirely reflective of the real world power use. I'm OK with a more power hungry motor if it's due to a more aggressive tune that is contributing to forward propulsion, but I don't want to be burning off my battery juice just to generate heat.

As far as I know, the EP801 already had a more "aggressive" power delivery compared to the CX5 (the assist definitely hits 400%).

Not sure if Shimano will take the same route -meaning a software update- but... I doubt they're just sitting on their hands ;) .

Let's see what they come up with!

Shimano have left it too late imo. Many of the manufactures who were making Shimano bikes have moved over to Bosch and I find it hard to believe they are going to claw them back at this point. Their glacial pace of product development is going to see them with a smaller and smaller share of the market as time goes on.
