Hello,
I was annoyed that soft mud got a few times already into my charge connector on a Cube 144. I've also had the magnet problem, now that is fixed and the cover door mostly stays closed, but still, when it gets really muddy and most of the bike is covered with mud, it still gets in. I've decided to scan in the door and design a cap around it.
This view is from the bottom of the port. You do not see these 3 pillars, these are holding the connector itself and going into the frame.
Anyway, I've designed a small cap around it, printed out of TPU (do not recommend it out of rigid materials, it has to flex), tweaked a few times, now tried (not yet with mud :- ) and it did stay in place.
I will start to use it now, but I thought I share the design, maybe someone is as annoyed with that charge port as me.
A few things to consider:
- no guarantees, I take no responsibility, whether it stays in place, you brake the charge port, water comes in (suggest to remove it in the garage after wet ride or wash!), someone eats it, it fells of and stuck somewhere on the bike, causing accident .... I take no responsibility.
- it should be applied put on the right side first, than snap in the left. Removal is the same, right side first (otherwise you would just open the door, but not enough to connect charger)
- the door magnet still has to be fixed. If you have the same Cube port design and there is nothing keeping your charge port door closed, there is a Cube fix for that, ask at the dealer. The add a magnet or replace the door.
- really only TPU. Do not try from ASA, PETG etc. The features what are holding in place:
needs to flex. If you make it out of rigid material, you break something.
