Yesterday on the way home from work. 😱 I reported to police they said they can’t do nothing. Just warning others I will happen to you.
It happened to me at Diesel pump four at the shell garage. 😂👍
Get yourself one of those new fangled milk floats on Octopus and you cna drive like a cat who has got the cream , until Rach Reeves stealth tax kicks in next year per mile :)

So now we’re waiting for our new Hybrid (HEV)to arrive in 4-6weeks. But I’m starting to have regrets about that. I’m thinking the PHEV might make more sense.

We could be fuel-free other than some fuel for longer drives. A trickle charger is easy for the garage, but I could install a wall-charging- station in the garage fairly easily.

The rising cost of fuel might be the push that changes our behaviour. After all, I’m use to a EMTB now.

Well, I switched my cars to 2 EVs for the family over the past few years... Now let me tell you a little story about depreciation o_O
who buys a normal car as an investment , On EV's yes they drop % high but do not buy new , buy nearly new or demo , then some else takes the depreciation shock :)

Yes, both bought used at screaming deals, but the floor turns out to be zero :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, once Rivian comes to Europe I'll have another opportunity to lose a ton of money on depreciation, as I typically only learn from my mistakes after repeating them 3-4 times.

I have a work vehicle. It’s an EV and they put a charger in at home for me as well.
I used to hate it.

I only buy my EVs used. I’m still getting smashed with depreciation but on the whole I’m pretty happy about it. The cars I’ve owned have been basically free to run out side of tires and cabin filters. Oh, and wipers.

Now let me tell you a little story about depreciation o_O

I leased one of the first BYD Atto 3's for my missus and she loved it but her job changed about a year ago and the EV was giving her the shizz, working rural it was a pain for her with the dodgy charging stations that may be out of service, so 6 weeks ago she bought a petrol Forester for herself and handed me the keys back to end the lease and sell the car. The lease would just cover the resell price, so depreciation has been bad.

Couple of weeks later, Trump did his thing. I have now parked up my diesel 4WD and been driving the EV for the last 3-4 weeks, now just renewed the lease for 1 more year and use it for the drive to work.
At current prices and L/100km on my 4WD, its about $27 a day to do the commute by it and only $4 a day in the EV. With no FBT (fringe benefit tax) on leasing an EV and the drop in final balloon payment from year 3 to year 4, even with the diesel prices back to normal, its actually paying me drive the EV for another year and keep the kilometres off my 4WD.

So diesel out and electric bike and car for me for the next year.

Who'd have thunk old Trumpy has actually helped save the planet :ROFLMAO:

Electric Motorbike for me 5 years ago. Worked really well, so I updated the car 4 years ago. I have solar so between fuel and servicing. The EV has paid for itself compared with keeping the old ICE vehicle. 4 years, 65,000km. Servicing to date has been $100 for cabin filters. Even the tyres are still original.

The missus has held out, even though I took her test driving EVs last year. This week she has begged me to come home early from my EMTB ride on Saturday, and take her to the EV dealer. She's getting the Jaecoo J5. These things are selling like hotcakes here. Only been out 3 months. Already 10th best selling EV here.

To date. I have been unaffected by the Oil Crisis. But I know price hikes are coming.

I’ve been driving an EV of some sort (along with other ICE cars) for nearly 12 years now.

The EVs available now are light and day better than the early ones I had.

I paid £50k for my last EV back in 2022, put 91k miles on it and sold it the middle of last year for £19k. £31k or 62% depreciation doesn’t sound great, but over the same period I was saving a net £6.5k a year in fuel over the equivalent petrol car. Factor that in (over £22k) and the depreciation figure looks pretty good.

That was at fuel prices back then, I don’t have solar at home but have a decent enough overnight rate. Cost of ownership is the key for me really, not just simple depreciation. The car helps me earn a living at the end of the day, and all cars depreciate anyway.

I lead the Sustainability Office of a large institution and have published several studies on climate change, so these days every time I start an engine or board a flight, I can’t help feeling a twinge of guilt… 😬

That’s also why I stick to a very small car and rely on my e-bike or regular bike whenever I can. Beyond the lower environmental impact, it’s also great for both my fitness and my wallet.

P.S. If you’re curious about the real footprint of electricity where you live (unless you have your own PV system or a certified green energy contract), this is a very useful resource: Map | Electricity Maps. There are several settings available on the bottom of the map.

There's a grain of truth in that. Hard to be optimistic about anything much at the moment, but one positive development I suppose is Trump has made the strongest possible case for why countries must turn their backs on oil & and they seem to be listening.

Saw a post yesterday a guy bought a vw buzz 6 months ago , decided he don’t like it so went to garage to trade it in and it had lost £18k in value in 6 months 😳

I bought an ID Buzz last year for 37k with very low mileage, it was sold new for 60k the year before... So far they are not dropping further below that, although VW just announced a recall... It would need to drop down to 20k in the next 3 years for the lease they offered me to have been a better deal.

Fantastic car for mtb riders though, there isn't really any competition if you want a small, van like EV, with 5 seats. Just a shame it is 3cm too tall for most car parks in France, has shocking range on the motorway (plenty on mountain roads) and VW's software and user experience can be pretty bad.

I have free charging at the office and a full charge is around €6 on public chargers.

I’ve always shunned EV’s but I reckon what I’m now paying here for diesel (£1.82 per litre locally in Glasgow)would go a long way to leasing an EV if I decide to trade my 64 plate non LEZ compliant diesel car in.I don’t do long distances now.
Fwiw I read an article on the ‘net recently stating ALL UK registered petrol or diesel cars registered before 2015 will automatically fail their next MOTs due to being non compliant.
Maybe AI fake news but makes you wonder about hidden WEF agendas.🤔

Can you point towards that because I would be very interested in reading it.

I would imagine a £60k anything vehicle would give you a good kicking financially trying to offload it after only 6 months.

It’s really what it’s worth 3-5 years after purchase that matters, by most measures anyway.

I’ll try to find whatever You tube channel it was on for you although tbh that’s why I wondered if it was AI tosh or the real deal.
I’m also going to enquire at my local mot station to see if they’ve heard anything unusual.

Everything I read about it said it was untrue..... but maybe I was in the twilight zone ....

You jest! No other country in the world takes Trump seriously! 😂

Do I? Not sure how many examples anyone needs of the perils of dependency on finite resources under significant control of autocrats in geopoitically chaotic parts of the world leaving us at the mercy of fragile supply chains. I make it two in four years now & several over my life time. Trump may be the dumbest f***er to ever walk the Earth but if he's done us one solid, it's that.

The closure of the Straits causing the ongoing fertiliser shortage during the start of the Northern Hemisphere's growing season guarantees that there'll be a shortage of grain for sure.
