Anyone had success with shipping a bike battery internationally ? I have a Shimano E8010 (for a 2019 Merida e160 900e) that I want to ship to the US and back so I can take my bike on a trip there later this year. Not having any luck finding options so far. Thanks

I think you're going to be low on options, unless you can find someone to ship by sea and you don't mind the wait. You might have more luck putting a post in the new "travel" forum section and asking about battery rental/loan in the area of the states you're going to.

I sent my shimano batterie from France to Brasil from a post office in France. It took some time to convince them and it was on the original shimano box. It seems that if you do not have the original packaging you will need a professional to box it and sign a waiver to transport company.

They shouldn’t have taken it.

IATA regs are very clear on lithium battery shipment and a domestic carrier is not able to ship them.

One of the reasons new model ebikes arrive at the dealers after the conventional bikes is because they are shipped by sea freight.
@kx3 - where in the States are you going?

It's possible but unlikely that you'd want to given all the requirements. Dangerous goods training, highly specialised packaging & all manner of complex conditions unless it's NiMH or in 100 Wh modules.

Tell the french what they shall do or not is not my intention at all. I am not sure if it was dispatched by air or sea, but took two weeks to be delivered.
I have also bought a spare shimano batterie that was sent from Poland overseas to Brasil no problem.
I would advise anyone that needs to ship a batterie to seek information at a post office to get information.

Try DHL or FedEx / UPS, tell them it is lithium battery only.
I have sent Lithium Battery from USA to Asia via FedEx and DHL before (for other electronic), it was like 2-3 years ago. you need lithium battery label on the box, and choose which UN and ask them first if OK.

UN3480 / PI965 LITHIUM ION CELL/ BATTERIES ONLY or
UN3090 / PI968 LITHIUM METAL CELL/ BATTERIES ONLY

You must verify which one is shimano battery.
Cannot send it via passenger plane, must use cargo carrier.

I'd be very interested in shipping my bike with battery via FedEx and DHL, (separately alternate carriers) to the US & I don't know say Costa Rica too if it's that easy :D Thanks I'll see what's involved cost wise but sounds fantastic.

Would guess the freight of a bike without batteries by express courier trans continental will be a 500 dollars figure each way and they will hardly ever transport an ebike with the batterie installed.

I was wondering if anyone else has had an issue with nextgen lithium shipping or customer service? I had a legit warranty return and paid to send battery back, super frustrating after spending 1200 bucks. It was “approved” but they have not shipped the replacement? I have been working on this warranty return since January 15th.. they wanted me to “troubleshoot it” for another month before they had me send it back. They haven’t shipped my replacement battery and keep telling me it is because of shipping delays from.. (insert reason). But I have heard of people who are buying them new are getting batteries? They have told me it is 2 weeks out 5 times. I have been waiting since February and thankfully my friend let me borrow some of his old AGMs or I’d still be down. This is super frustrating and I am not trying to bad mouth anyone’s sponsor or whatever ties they have to this company but I have had it. Can anyone say if they have bought a new 36v marine lithium battery since February and received it? Thanks-
