2020/21 e160 500 with the 5003 all in one display.

First real big ride today. Plenty of hills. Had two bars left and 18km showing in trail mode. Not long after (2km) down to 1bar and 9km. About 1k later ot shows 2k... then dies.

The first two bars took at least three times longer to drop. The last two was so fast got stuck about 3k from home.

Normal?

Hi there

This also happens with my brand new Shimano battery, first three bars take about 25 miles off road riding to drop, gets to two bars and doesn't seem to last long before it's at one.
A couple of decent hills on one bar and it's down to restricted power and then dies.

I wonder whether it is just a deficiency or the lack of ability of the display or what ever electrickery is used to calculate what you have left.
Did about 37km and maybe 8-900m of climb before it quit, which is ok. Just not knowing remaining range to any degree of accuracy is a PIA as sometimes I would like to stretch it as far as possible.

I had the same thing on my EP8 630Wh - did 2 x laps of a ~9 mile red route using 29% each (so 58% used, 42% remaining), and the bike completely died less than 2/3rds the way round a 3rd lap. I was anticipating a slight drop off, but had fully expected a buffer of an extra 13% to be plenty to complete that extra lap....

Based on that, we should be assuming ~85% (or 15%!) is the cutoff point, as anything beyond that is effectively limp home mode...

I thought we had Lipo or Lifepo which should carry better discharge a bit longer.

Last time l went out, the last hill back to
my home was done without motor assistance.
It's possible, but slow progress. It's difficult to work out how far it will go when the display starts flashing.
Last time it did about three miles including two hills.
This time it shut down very quickly, within about a minute.

The Shimano's have always had a very inverted pyramid battery bar thing going on.

The first bar's normally quite good. When you drop to the last bar it's very much - go home - you have a few km's left ..

Yes, with a 5 bar basic display you are 5% away from limp and/or stopping as soon as you have 1 bar 20 % left. If it is working hard when you get 1 bar.... it ends very fast.
